ok, I hear alot oi you saying that you must work out upper and lower abs. A trainer said that, that is not true. He said that he would prove it to me. He told me that the abs are like your biceps you can't you work out the upper part and then the lower. He asked me to just flex my upper abs and not my lower. You can't just flex one with out the other there for why try to do lower and upper its all one muscle. What do you think about this?

That trainer is getting into technical details. Yes, technically when you are concentrating on the upper part, the lower region will still flex a little bit and vice-versa, but that doesn't mean we can't say we are mainly working the upper or lower regions. You can focus more work on the upper or lower region of your abs by the movement you do. This is well known, and that trainer should know better before spouting off since his example is not valid. The abs kind of roll together or towards each end when they flex, and the biceps do not. With the abs, you can focus on rolling one end at a time, though there will still be some tension along the entire ab region.
