Flax seed is typically around 15.5 % oil and is full of fiber, protein and complex carbs. For suplementation purposes you should be taking in arond 14 gms of oil per 100 lbs of body weight, for a 200 lb BBer that's 28 gms -- To get that much oil from eating the seeds you would have to eat around 180 grams (about 1.25 cups)
That around 750 cals as opposed to 250 for taking the oil straight-up.....
Suggest a mix of both, maybe go 1 tblspoon of oil and 1/2 cup or so of the seeds every day.
BTW, the commercial process for extracting flax oil from seed is cold pressing -- don't ever heat your flax oil, it'll hyrdolyze or go rancid in a big hurry --
