I am giving a speech in a little over a week on why anabolic steroids should be legalized and regulated (under a physicians care) for professional athelets. i.e. the baseball situation. The problem is I have to outline everything I will say in my speech. I am giving this to a class exclusively of women, none of which no anything about steroids besides "they are drugs, and they are bad for you, they make you go crazy, etc..." This is for a speech class at school and we have to let people critique our outlines. I have divided mine into a problem and solution portion and I had the problem done yesterday for class. One of the comments I got was "You should make sure everyone understands the difference between anabolic steroids and bolic steroids." This girl had no idea what she was talking about. So I have had to spend a great deal of time with history. I am on to the solution portion of it now and I need some help. I believe that they should be legal for these atheles because they have shown the decidation and sacrifice needed to get where they're at. They have shown that they can make mature decisions and they should have the right to take their game to the next level. However, I don't think that steroids should be legalized for the general public. There are way to many people that would hurt themselves. The problem I'm running into now is that I need to find a place where something like this has worked, or at least been attempted before. This would be alot more convincing if I could prove that it had been done before. I know that steroids are legal in certain places over in Europe. I wonder if anyone could point me to a study or just a place of info. that tells anything about this. Any help or other ideas are greatly appreciated. Sorry this is so ridculously long. Thanks for the help.

You could use the argument that this is simply an alternative use for an already prescription medicine, which would still be administered under the care of a physician. I'm sure you can find lot's of examples of such usage of other medications. I'm not sure how you're going to argue that they should only be available to professional athletes - I don't know where that has been done before. You could also compare this to elective surgeries, including plastic surgery. Basically, people are trying to improve their quality of life. Hope this helps!

Saying it's ok for pro athelets but to dangerous for the general public makes you have to walk a very fine line that I think puts you in a position that will be difficult to support. At best it's elitist on one end and protectionistic on the other. (Great for the select few but bad for the masses) That alone ,even without the AAS predjudice you are going to encounter ,makes your position hard to defend.

that is true, can you think of a better way to do this. The main goal here is to get people to open their minds about anabolic steroids. I don't believe that I'm going to convince a room of women that steroids are ok in 10 minutes, but if I can get them to look at them with a more open mind; that's what I want to do. Can you think of another way I can do that. If so, please help.

i think you should do what weirdal is saying. liposuction is available just to look better, breast implants are allowed just to look better, sex changes are allowed just so some freak can let out his inner woman,so why can't a healthy individual use aas to better himself

I did a speech on AS two semesters ago. Make sure you tell both sides of the story. If you use only your point of view, you will be shot down and your aidience will close you off faster.

You should probably go with the "stereotype" point of view first. Maybe mention start out by asking questions like
(1) Who here has heard of anabolic steroids?
(2) What some general opinions on AS? (let them answer)
then shoot them down with this one...
"How much research have you done to form your opinion? Or are you basing your comments on what you've heard in the media?

Follow that up by mentioning how doctors kill about 250,000 people per year and people still go have surgery to enhance their bodies. Atleast the majority of AS users have a fairly strict training and diet regimine. Explain how AS doesn't make your muscles grow; its the diet, training, and rest that are important. As merely is merely a catalyst for the process to be more efficient.

There is a safe way to use AS. it's no different than drinking beer, only it's more safe........

okay, I'm not writing this thing for you.......... good luck
