this is basically geared towards basskiller

are the rolling chasis in easy rider worth the price or are the fenders shit, etc...

for 3-5K you can really work towards something reasonable--add 3K for a power plant, >1K for paint, and you are looking at a custom under 10K--is it too good to be true?

tranny....cables...wiring...tires...rims.....seat. ...bars....what about all this.....a buddy of mine has put together a couple here recently and 1 was a kit the other he totally did himself....both around 14-16k .....and that was just the price of the material S&S 100 ci and a 6 speed tranny...u r dreamin at under 10 k unless u want a sporty!

most places will let you mix and match for a rolling chassis.. personally i've never seen one that i would buy.. mostly because i'm a picky prick.. or if you give them the parts list and i don't know who much your looking to spend but they will work on the price with you.. personal i'm a daytech fan with 220 avon and dual front brakes.. JJ rear and a full wrap around front.. with broom stick (6 inch pull back).. but bass has some other bike dreamed up in his brain.. i like it was a ducati.. he likes those café bikes.. :D

i think the last bike i parted out came in at the 23k range and that with paint and powder coating

dedprez is correct by the time u add cables, lines, controls, wiring, ignition, your in the range of 14 to god knows how much. i have a friend that built a custom sportster on a hardtail (goodlooking bike for a sportster) and he had over 12k in it. you may want to go this route. ive always had harleys (mostly stock) and have always wanted to build or by custom. my current bike is a 02 dyna (cheapest big bike you can get, out the door for under 13k w/ the new twin cam 88inch motor) had the motor built a little (cam, carbs etc..) controls, bars, seats, lowered, upsize down 55mm forks, chrome, blah, blah, blah, but anyhow, i have 22k in mine (which is a little steap) but i pulled up beside a 30k titan at the fall ralley in myrtle beach, and i liked mine just as well or prolly better, (even though i'm biased) even the wife like mine better. good warranty (extended plan) and very good financing. its sometimes tough to finance 15k for a bike your gonna build. good luck.

Have you looked at any of the complete bike kits by Custom Chrome? They include everything needed including every last nut and bolt.........you just need to do the paint, and assembly.

I built thier Nemesis kit (the complete kit lists for $12,000, but if you go through a bike shop, they can get dealer pricing and get it cheaper). I just used different handle bars, and pipes, as I didn't like the ones that came with the kit. But it turned out great, a lot of chrome comes in the kit.
Before summer, I am going to build thier Goliath kit (250 rear tire softail with polished 100 Revtech)

This is the kit bike that I built......after paint and everything, slightly over $12,000 invested

nice, just curious is that a hard tail or softail frame, normally hardtails are a little more expensive, if you built a softail for 12k, thats one hell of a job! did you do it yourself, if so how long did it take you? nice scoot.

If you can be satisfied with a rolling frame, then go for it.
But I have yet to see one that meets my every needs. DO NOT SETTLE.
When building a custom bike.. It's just that Custom.
Also, like the others have said it isn't going to happen under 10,000. a good trick paint job is a couple of grand alone. The wheels I want are 1 grand a piece w/o rubber
You could also go the way Mr T went and buy a full kit bike... You most likely won't see too many like it, so that too would be a semi custom.

Save the bucks Start from the ground up. Have a custom built frame.. and go from there...

Hell, I've sunk a bit of money into my bike... But I stopped. Once I get about 10,000 saved, I'll sell this ride and have the money to put together a bike that will costs maybe 20 to 25 grand and worth almost double that.

The one I built is a softail.........and I painted it myself and saved a lot of cash.

A friend of mine bought the same kit, and then added some different parts (streched fatbob tanks/fatbob style rear fender/different forward controls etc.) and you would never know that it started out as the same kit. His paint job cost him around $3500 and he has about $19,000 total in his bike.
