so i have a customer of mine that is a power lifter for a christian organization.someone says he tears phone books in half.i say,i'd have to see it to believe it.he goes out to his truck and brings back a phone book.not a little one.about 3 inchs thick.he tears it in half.took him about 10 sec.

then he sighs it for me,kinda impressed

evangelist T.A. NALIAN
his crew consist of tom balabuch, big james henderson, bryan dorsey, doug bercume, and luther ellis(lions)but i see him all the time.

I've done that before. It's really not a big deal if you know the secret. An older guy showed me how to do it a couple years ago. It's too complicated to explain the technique, so have him show you how to do it if he will.

well...

You get it by the hard binding and just crack it then tear. That simple. Just need a little wrist strength. I have done 8 in a row. But, My buddy did like 10 and was ready for more. The 1st time I heard of someone doing it I lost 20 bucks . That night I ripped 2 of them and won my money back and some . hahaha.

Damn, a liscence plate? Yeah - my dad taught me how to do the phone book thing when I was a kid, although I never was able to tear one in half as a kid and I haven't tried since.

this guy tour it paralel with the binder.if it makes a difference

Immpossible, it wouldn't tear straight. You see, tearing Phonebooks perpendicular to the binder is very easy. Paper has what is called a "grain" or a direction in which the fibers flow in the production proccess. Paper is about 90% water when it is made and the pulp/paper flows like a river in the machine that makes it. It goes through the machine on what is essentually a drying belt and the fibers act like tiny longs in this huge river and when they dry they all point in one direction. This direction just happens to be perp. to the binder and tearing in the same direction of the grain is very easy. Tearing large amounts of paper against the grain is very difficult and never tears straight. Here a little trick to see what direction the paper grain is going. Tear off a 2" square piece of notebook paper, lay it on your tongue until its wet, but not completely soaked. Take it out and see which way it curls up. The grain will run the parallel to the ends of the paper that curled up. How do I know this? I worked in sales for a paper company.

cheers.

Somebody post how to do this?
The only thing I found is to "bake" the phone book in the over for a few hours to make it brittle.
Do you need to do this?

Bossman, what are you trying to say I weaker then your girl?
lol
I tried man, I can't get the binding to break... shit
I'll up my Fina and try again. J/K what is Fina anyway

Were do you live, New York? j/k. Bend it back and forth to break the glue. And as far as the book being torn parallel to the binder, I guess it could be if the paper was printed with the grain in an unusual direction. Most PB are made with the grain perp. to the binder.

Well I did it , I need to practice since it wasn't easy and I ended up with a corner and not 2 halves.
Great post thanks - I love to show off
