What if you have some equipment at home, what would you do then? I would think you should let your body fight off the germs and rest during this process, but then some people say you must sweat it out.

If it's something you can live with like a minor cold I say work out. If you got the flu or something stay home.

I might do a steam room or saunna, but I don't think I'd workout, just for the reason Presser stated. I don't want to give it to someone else, just seems rude. No sense giving it to some other poor soul. I hate it when people come to work sick too for the same reason. I work outside, and if I get sick it makes it a living hell in the winter time. Only trouble is that nobody can just take a week off for a cold, so we just have to deal with it, but the flue is different, comes and goes fast, so just stay home and get well, and don't spread it.

I'd have to say if it is minor enough to where you would still go to school or work, and not be really contagious (sp?), then work out. If you are really sick, don't your body needs the rest.

Having a cold is hard enough on your body, but couple that with heavy weight training and you may find that you're unable to recover properly for the next workout.

My doctor's rule is:
If it is above the neck ( i.e., like a head cold or sinus )
go to the gym.......the elevated heat in your system my fight it off before it gets worse.
However, if it is body aches ( i.e., flu or below the neck )
resting will be better for you in the long run.

Peace,

It helps me when I go to the gym. I sweat it out of my system.

if you are sick than keep your germs to yourself. no need for everybody else in the gym sick as well.

if I go to work sick all my collegues would get mad at me too work the very same reason... they don't want to get sick as well.

oh shit, yall will prolly get pissed at me then. well, i don't go to the gym, because i'm week anyhow, plus i don't want to get my fella bros sick either. however, i don't have sick days at work, and i work around mostly management, so i figure what the hell if they don't want to pay me to stay home then i will go to work and get everbody else sick also.

I don't compete, so I think of it this way. All of these people are working their asses off and starving the hell out of themselves for a show and the last thing they need is someone coming into the gym sick and spreading germs. I guess I care about myself and others that I stay home when I am sick(I'm sick now) cause I would hate to hear that someone did not make it on stage because I infected them. With my luck, the F%#@#&r will be bigger than me........:(

It depends on what it is and how far along it is. If I am just coming down with something I will stay home. Usually it's too late and you are also contagious at that stage anyway. If it's the backside of a cold and it's just sniffles I will go. If it's full blown flu I stay the hell out until it's completely passed.

they always say that sweating is the bedt way to sweat the cold off, I always go when I do get a cold. Unless I'm completely drained, then I don't.

i've always heard that lifting reduces your immune system while cardio builds up your immune system.
