r-ALA effects?

A strange thing happened yesterday:

After sleeping all day Wednesday (New Years Day), not because I went out and partied Tuesday night, but just because I had off Wednesday and sat on the couch and watched football all day.
Anyway, so after doing nothing Wednesday and hardly eating, Thursday I felt like crap, and when I left work, I just wanted to eat a box of cookies and sit on the couch again.
So I figured let me at least take 2 100 mg r-ALA if I'm going to do that. So I proceed to go through half a box of Entenmann's chocolate chip cookies, and after laying on the couch for an hour, I got this incredible second wind.
I figured I might as well get up and go to the gym.
Well, I had one of my best workouts so far.
Back workout, maxed out stiff legged deadlifts 2x265, bent over dumbell rows, 4x100's, then did lat pulldowns and seated rows nice and easy, smooth with good form, 6x170 and 6x140, respectively.
Could it have been the r-ALA that gave me that second wind?
Or maybe just taking the previous day off from eating and working out?
