View Full Version : What keeps everyone driven?

At the suggestion of Bstrong to stop lurking, and DPrez to ask a question, I will finally ask something that has been eating away at me: The one thing I notice is alot of you are so driven. I am not new to working out, I have had a membership to World's Gym for years(Hate 24 hour SPA!) and they are the nicest gym owners on the plantet. Last night, I went to the gym and I had to drag my ass there just to get through a workout. Countless times, I make a promise to myself to improve that one area of my life and I keep telling myself that it is good for me and this is something that I like to do. I have the worst time staying motivated. Life is filled with the ups, downs, unexpected twists and turns and Lord knows we all have those, but what do you guys have that I don't when it comes to staying driven and keeping up with your workouts?

I work like any Joe or Jane, the work is not physical work, but mental work where you multi-task and your performance depends on whether you keep a job or not that at the end of the day(10-11 hours), I am drained to where I just want to go home and do not want to do anything or I am so exhausted that going to the gym at 5am before work is not the first thing on my mind. It boggles my mind on how some of you don't compete, yet you manage to stay driven to be consistent. Cutting the pics out of magazines isn't my thing so I don't even go there, but how do YOU guys do it? No wise ass remarks, just an answer please.

I honestly think everyone starts where u are , in dragging their sorry ass in the gym, I think we all sucked it up in the beginning until we finaly seen the real benfits of working out, and after that point in wich you know u have something going and see real results, then it will take an army to get you not to go!

basicaly you need to stay at it until it becomes a lifestyle, and it will become a lifestyle when you see great, not good, but great results! then your hoooooked

the diference between those that go in for awhile and then quit, come back later,....never really go anywhere and peeps like me and the others on this board is it has to be a "lifestyle" , it never ends....it is part of your everyday life, it is not a 9-5 job, it should not b a "task" to get there and workout.......some may reach this so called "heaven" and others will not...ultimately it is up to u and YOU alone will make the switch/decision.

Pussy! That is the key..... It takes about 3 months of good working out. You just got to get some ephedra and eat right and get your ass in there. Then you will have to get a stick to beat the women off of you.

Even when I was training naturally, lifting weights was probably the easiest way to set small, achievable goals and see success from week to week. Not to sound cornball or anything, but this whole bodybuilding thing has changed my life for the positive...bigtime. The success I've experienced in the gym has most certainly spilled over into every other aspect of my life.

You are working a lot of hours, it will be difficult to get the energy to go work out. Just keep in mind that most often, deciding to go is the hard part. After you are there and warmed up and the blood is pumping, it won't be the chore it seems like it is. be determined and know that you are doing something healthy for yourself, like a gift you are giving yourself. The results you get will be with you 24/7 to enjoy and feel good about.
Other than that, just remember that YOU HAVE TO 'CAUSE WE SAID SO!!! :D

It's in my blood from the first time I saw a weight room I knew that's what I wanted to do and it hasn't changed. I not only use it to keep me going physically but mentally also:cool:

determination...i know i've had my fair share of mornings when i didn't want to hit the gym. myself, i work the same type of job, 10-12 hours a day, the kind of job you take home with you. i'm pretty good about not letting it affect my family, though.

but the gym; it's my haven. it's MY time when i'm there. i put all of my heart into it, even the days i don't want to. the payoff is wonderful, and when the pumps kick in, no one could ever pull me away. i become a monster! aaaggghhhhhuuggghhhh!!!!!

we all have our moments, bro

Lifting has helped in every part of my life as long as I can remember. It helps me both physically and mentally.
In highschool it helped with football, wrestling and woman.
In College it helped with Football, wrestling, bouncing at clubs for change and woman.
These day's it helps with Bjj, Nhb, keeping the stress levels down at work and home. And it helps with the woman.

It has been a conerstone of what makes me me. I find I am a better Father, worker, athlete and person when I keep a consistent workout routine. And did I mention the woman.

I used to be so skinny in high school, and never want to be like that again, I see people that I haven't seen in a while, and when they compliment on how I look now, I can't tell you how good that feels.

I have always had an image of myself that I would like to look like and I don't want any regrets in my life. In other words, I don't want to be like 60 and say "man I wish when I was younger................." Life is short. The time is now!
