kidney failure from excessive vitamin c

Just an FYI for those of you taking large amounts of vitamin c like I have been doing - I just got back from the nephrologist (kidney doc), and it looks like I'm in mild kidney failure from the vitamin c I'm taking. According to the doc, it's rare, but high doses of vitamin c (I have been taking around 5000mg per day) can crystilize and clog up your kidneys (since vitamin c is water soluble, any extra that your body can't process gets excreted in your urine), causing kidney failure. Anyway, I'm supposed to stop taking vitamin c and get some blood work done in about a month. Hopefully everything will be fine then. I didn't really have any symptoms, just some high B.U.N and creatinine levels, and when he looked at my urine under a microscope, while my urine was almost water (from all the water I drink), it was full of vitamin c crystals (he said an incredibly impressive amount).

Anyway, like I said, hopefully I'll be back to normal soon. The good news is that it should be safe for me to resume hormone replacement therapy (test cyp injections).

I think 2K is good IMO. Although I've heard of guys taking in 5k or more with no problems. How much water were you taking in ED WeirdAl? If UR taking in a gal or better, I'd think you would be pissing all that excess out. (???)

I'm drinking well over a gallon of water. The doc said it's rare, but the crystalized vitamin c (in the urine, I guess - that's how you excrete it) can clog up your kidneys to the point you're in kidney failure. Apparently this is what happened to me.

nasty shit! good to know....did he say that it is a genetic predisposition, or is this a case where all the variables just fell into place at the same time? Did he mention creatine levels in your urine too? Are you taking creatine?

yes be extra careful bro.........I hope everything will be ok....
