View Full Version : Am I overtraining?

For almost the past two-years, I've been training five-days a week with one body part per day. I change my workout every 6-8 weeks so my muscles do not get adjusted and change my routine every week to two weeks.
I'm getting about 150g of protein a day, at least, and more than likely, it's more.
It seems like everyone that I lift with is getting stronger and they're not busting their ass as much as I am and they eat like shit. It sucks and it pisses me off. I am more muscular than they are (more gym big, I guess you would say), but they're stronger in most areas than I am.
Do I REALLY need a big change in my workout? I know people go through platues but I feel like this one is really big. Granted, I go up five to 10 pounds sometimes but I feel like I am lagging behind others.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

there are so many different things that can affect your mass growth... stress, diet, sleep, water intake, supps, and etc etc etc... it looks like you are looking for the answer.. but maybe everyone else in on cycle right now and you are not... too many things to really tell what maybe wrong.. give more info..

Try some powerlifting techniques and give it 8 weeks. Powerlifting strategy is totally different than bodybuilding strategy. That should help stimulate some new strength so that when you go back to bb oriented training, you'll have some bigger top-end poundages to stimulate more BULK!

What are some good powerlifting techniques?

The people I'm talking about are the ones that lift two-to-three days a week and eat maybe two meals a day, so they don't cycle anything.

When I train my bodyparts, I never go over 12 sets total unless I'm doing shrugs or working my fore-arms with biceps.

as the other guys have stated, there are a lot of variables involved.

I think you may need to up your protein to 225g, minimum

another thing is the time between your last meal and your workout. You may need to eat a little something 30 minutes to an hour before you train

I'm just a rookie compared to most of the other guys here, but keep trying different things and you will find your answer

Like Gear101 said, we need more info.
You said you're probably taking in 150 g of protein, but what's your diet like? How many meals are you eating a day? Are you getting enough sleep? Doing cardio?

I'm doing some cardio now. Last week I started running a few miles during the week to cut down on my gut that is forming; other than 10-minutes a day, three-days a week, I don't do any cardio.
I start the morning out (8:00AM) with six eggs and three sausage patties. I need the sausage patties to take the eggs down because the eggs alone will make me vomit.
I have class at 9:00-11:00, so when I get out, I go straight to the gym and around 12:30, I'll stop by KFC for some chicken or Subway for a 12" Pizza sub (I know it's not the best food but it has protein and it taste good). Then I head to my 1:00 class.
After I get out at 2:00, I head back to the gym to do abs and my cardio, then eat a protein bar (30g).
After that my day is pretty much over with any sheduled events but usually I'll take in two more meals to finish up with approx. 170g including a protein shake.

Also, I get between 5-9 hours of sleep per night.

You might look at that diet bro. Here's a 5k calorie diet that takes in almost 600g protein. This is what I'm trying to hit right now for bulking. I weigh 250lbs right now to give you a gauge on how to adjust this for yourself.

Holy shit! That's a lot of food!

I need to find another job because another reason that sets me back from eating more is the money and a wife to fix the food for me. ;)
