To those that have seen Pumping Iron before...

Do you know think that it was fucked up when Arnold skipped his dad's funeral just for the competition?

I don't know about you, but family is more important than a competition. I do realize that competing is a big part of his life, but come on, it was his dad!

I have to agree with HardMoFo. Arnold made a point of explaining why he didn't go and I must say that I agree with him. The man was dead what more can be done about it now? The time to be with his father was while he was living. Hopefully he did plenty of that. You also must take into account that bodybuilding was his career at that point, not a hobby like it is for most of us. I think many people would do the same thing in similar circumstances. Imagine, he's at a key point in his career, he's known as the best in the world at what he does and it's time to defeat all those who would take his place. Not only does his income from the upcoming contest depend on his being in top shape, but his income from endorsements, modeling and everything else. Would he have ever become the famous star he is today if he'd have shown up out of shape and lost? Once you lose the Mr. O I don't think it's possible for anyone to come back and win it back again. Now imagine what a world without all the Arnold movies would be like, a world without the Arnold Classic.

in last flex issue i read the pumping iron special and in there arnold said that all that shit he said was just for entertainment. none of it was true.

Yep, I read it too and was going to post on this thread but forgot. Something about a French bodybuilder told him that and he wanted to add more drama to the movie.

Gee, the French screw their family over, too...

The story I got "back in the day" was that the death happened to another competitor's father who wasn't featured in the movie. In order to show the dedication of the man to the sport it, Arnold pretended it was his father. Apparently the most surprised person after watching the movie was Arnold's mother. Arnold's father was still alive at the time his mother watched it.

Considering that was a documentary, that was kind a a bastard thing to do if your father was still alive.

It's different than playing a part in a movie.

looking back i'm sure now that he is a father that wasn't the best thing to do in his live... i'm sure the guy has second thoughts about that.. and i'm not 110% sure of this but he did go back and spend well over a year back with his mother in between his two BB winning years

i agree with arnold on his point, you train all year for one day and month before it hard to abbandon that just to bury the dead.

the movie was sensationalized a bit but in total those guys really were like that, arnold herbed everyone and ken waller fuckined with nerds like mike katz.

i would skip my dads funeral to take a shit, thats how much i hate him

I don't hate my dad, but he's a loser fucking alcoholic who doesn't care about his son or grandchildren.......prolly one reason I stopped drinking like I used to - I could see myself slowly turning into him

yeah when i was growing up my dad wouldnt pay child support, but had enough cash to have plenty of weed, alchohol, and nice parties. I never want to be like my father, he has three kids, but only treats 1 of them decent. peace
