MP3 Players

I've been doing some research on buying one. For the people that do use them, what brand/model are you using, what do you recommend?

Thanks

Rio has some nice ones. I have one that is kind of old. Made for Nike by Rio. It has it's flaws and Rio has newer ones out. Look for the ones that are small and can go around your arm with an elastic band. I have the PSA Play for Nike. Doesn't skip, but but like I said, it has it's flaws. I can't leave the battery in or the memory card will suck the AA battery dry. It's great to be able to download songs from your computer everytime you go to the gym and not have to take cds or tapes with you when you want variety. When you find one you like, look around for the best prices at dealcatcher.com

The Kenwood deck I bought for my car will play MP-3's....not sure whether that's the type you're looking for but it kicks ass for me. I've downloaded a shitload from Kazaa and the last MP-3 I burned has almost 60 songs on it with around 400MB still left on the disk

Yeah...I've been checking out Rio, do you guys have the RIO S35S?

BTW, I am looking for a portable device.

I got a refurbished one from www.sonicblue.com, rio's site, for $25. I figured the wear and tear at the gym I don't want to spend a lot of money on it. It's in the steals and deals section. I love that little bastard.

I have a creative nomad II. I've been very happy with it!

i got the rca lyra from walmart, it can hold like 35 songs, enough for the whole time in the gym. i love it
and i have the pioneer premier deh-p940mp in my truck great mp3 player if you want to spend like 1000 bucks, and i just made a new cd that has 104 songs and its onle a about 60 percent full, the are worth the money by far

RCA Lyra

I have the RCA Lyra it holds 128mb of songs. I don't think it will hold your whole Nsync cd though......Maybe though. Keep us informed.

I am thinking of going w/ the Rio sport, does anybody not like this product for a curtain reason? The reviews said it doesn't pick up FM very good, what are your reviews?

now they have mini disk mp3s, theay are just as small and cheaper and hold tons of mp3s

Lot better buy for the money.... The digital carts for mp3 players still to expensive compare to mini disks

#1) Get one with expandable memory. The memory that comes with the unit is useless and will be outdated in less than a year. You want to get some cheap memory at ebay (or whereever). I like to have at least 256 mb.

#2) Choose what kind of memory you want. If you have a camera that uses "Compact Flash", or "Memory Stick", or whatever, you might want to get an mp3 player that uses the same kind. (I prefer compactflash)

#3) Forget about the junky cable and software that comes with the unit. You want to get a USB adapter that takes your memory card. This is about $20 and will mount your memory card as a disk drive in windows. You can actually use it as a portable hard drive, great for swapping software and songs with your friends. There are some exceptional mp3-players what will, by themselves, mount the memory as a disk drive (but, this is the exception).

#4) Don't be afraid of weird chinese brands being sold at supercheap prices on ebay. I have two and they're great.

#5) Happy shopping.

Skipp

No they don't skip. If you get the sony one... it is like 200 bucks but it comes with a 128 or 256mb memory card.. it costs like 90 just for the memory card. so get that one. Then if you buy a sony digital camera you can use the memory card for taking pictures as well. The memory cards are interchangeable. They are universal.

I use a 15 gig jukebox. Its larger than a small memory one, but has a case to clip on the belt when lifting and isn't much bigger than a minidisck portable player.

I also use it in the car, at work and when doing cardio so I need a ton of music and storage capacity. Doubles as a hard drive.
