My doctor prescribed me some vicoden and I was curious if anyone ever worked out on pain meds and how was your pump and over all workout, my shoulder is in bad shape and I want to work through the pain, i know i can mess it up more but i dont think i will push it to bad just enough to get by til it heals. I declined the dr's offer to shoot cortisone in it and im kinda rethinking that as well

I'm on Darvocet now for a root canal-the one difference I notice is that I need to concentrate more on the muscle that I am training(feel)

Haven't worked out on pain meds, but I had a cortizone shot in my shoulder 5 months ago and would do it again in a heartbeat if my arthritis flared up again.

I get a great workout on Vikes,I think in part because the don't make me drowsy at all like most people,if anything I get a little more hyper on them.
Just got cortizone in my shoulder Monday after fighting with some rotator cuff tendonitis for the past 2 months..taking antiinflammatories and it was getting worse...Now 2 days after the cortisone NO PAIN and full range of motion already, what a miracle drug! If you don't want an injection have your Doc prescribe a Medrol dose pack or a Prednisone pack(the oral equivalents of cortisone) they both work very well.

Good question....My plan is to give it ten days of rest(will be hitting legs/cardio/abs/some isolation arm exercises but no chest or shoulders on those days. My Doc is a top rated sports medicine orthopod and uses extremely low volumes of concentrated cortisone with a 30ga directed needle to minimalize any injection trauma to the site. I wouldn't let just anybody inject you because if done wrong injection in itself can inflict tendon damage. This guy knows his shit and used a total of 0.3cc for my shoulder.
Go with the pill pack if you aren't confident of the Docs technical skills, that obliviates the whole needle-tendon damage issue.
After suffering for 2 months and getting to the point where I was having a hard time reaching up to get the OJ from the top shelf of the damn refridgerater,to be pain free after just 2 days is awesome!

I've never done it and I wouldn't suggest it either kid. Your just asking to get hurt. Keep it light and easy though, try the rotator machine.

take some time off, it wont hurt, it'll just make you feel better.

Percocet and Hydro/Apap still let me go through workouts, but don't get too over confident

I would try to stay away from your cortico steroids (Cortizone - Prednisone) as they are catabolic to your muscles. I have done alot of reading on them as I have HAD to take Prednisone for my back. But if you need them, you need them as they will take the pain away.

the problem may be that you may not know when to stop, pertaining to repetition failure. Since your body is being masked by the pain due to the hydrocodone, you won't know when to stop. This, in turn, can lead to, or make you more prone to, injury.

Take the Vicodin following the workout to relieve any existing pain that may be troubling you.
