View Full Version : does HGH really cause site specific fat loss? if so, by what mechanism?

It is my understanding that human growth hormone does not do anything to muscle or fat by itself. From what I read hgh has no direct effect on muscle or fat but only stimulates the liver to produce and release insulin-like growth factors and so-matomedins. These growth factors are then the ones that cause various effects on the body. The main chemical hgh causes a release of that are of interest to bb'ers is somatotropic hormone or STH. The STH then causes muscular hypertrophy (increase in muscle cells) and hyperplasia (increase in number of muscle cells) while turning bodyfat into energy (causing fat loss). If this is true then why do so many people claim to notice fat specific fat loss from hgh injections?

I am not ruling out that hgh may have an effect via a different mechanism than what I have placed above, but it just seems to me that hgh would only cause a total body body fat reduction. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm interested to know cuz I'm on my first hgh cycle, taking 6iu's ED. I don't care weather it works site specific or not, but am just trying to educate myself here. Any info is greatly appreciated,,,bigjosh

Also, since the STH is such a big interest why don't bodybuilders skip a step and inject STH? Is STH made by pharmaceutical companies? I just have never heard of its use and was wondering if it exists...

Hi mate.

Somatotropic hormone is another word for Growth hormone. They are one and the same.

GH/STH causes the release of somatomedins such as IGF, as you rightly said. IGF and other somatomedins like MGF, can cause muscle growth. As I understand it, GH itself has less effect on muscle growth, but it does have an effect of fat cells. It can cause fat cells to release their stores, and also prevent new fat cells from being formed, by acting directly at the GH receptor. This is why spot reduction of fat occurs.
