I heard that Grapefruit is a natural fat burner.....I do not believe it, any information backing this up>? Thanks

You guys have never heard of the grapefruit diet popular back in the early 80s?

Actually grapefruit strengths the dose of several oral meds and the meds have warning labels stating not to eat grapefruit. Many people drink grapefruit with oral AS to strength them.

the naringin (spelling?) found in grapefruit is why you eat it. beverly international includes grapefruit in most pre contest diets. this ingredient is also found in many fat burners on the market.

jeremiah at beverly told this to me...i think there is something on their site about it if i remember right...bodybuildingworld.com

That's just about all that is in the 48 Hour Mircle Hollywood Diet. I think it has some extra vitamins in it or something.

Your just supposed to drink that shit for 48 hours and watch the fat melt off.

Never seen any scientific proof of this.

What nobody watches informericals at 3:00 am?

Really? I never heard this, and proof that this works?

It's true for some typically prescribed meds (I think BP pills was one). Some people ended up in serious trouble because of it. Do a search (grapefruit + medicine), the info readily comes up. I know alot of BBers doing it for the orals, but who really knows?

If you are going to try it buy the canned (not fresh) type. The magic ingrediant that makes it happen is in the rhine (sp?), which the canned has more of.

HeHeHe....

If you click on the second link that I posted, you'll notice that viagra is on the list.

I have a feeling they never tested it with dbol (lol).

i have a trainer doing my diet.he competes at a national level and also get others ready for shows through his bussiness. the diet plan he has layed out for me has a grape fruieatin every morning.

LA,

That's some interesting info, be sure to post about how it works for you on cycle.

That is the thing. I asked three different trainors the same question. 1 said it was a fat burner and 2 said it was not a fat burner.

Speaking of fat burners is celery a fat burner?

Never heard of apple cyder vinegar............Is that readily available?

I need to consider cutting some weight, Bananas, grapefruit, apple cyder vinegar, celery, chicken are all in the plans for dieting.

Grapefruit by it's action on enzymes in the digestive system and liver has complex effects. There is enchanced release of CCK with grapefruit and CCK is an appetite suppresant. The main interest in grapefruit as some of you have pointed out,is it's ability to alter druig metabolism, again this relates to it's influence on liver and intestinal enzymes.
To my knowlege it is not a fat "burner" in the way we think of drugs like ephedra alkaloids, but will enhance other drugs and suppress appetite.

Here's a brief abstract explaining some of the enzymatic interactions and complex effects.

Grapefruit juice and drugs: a hazardous combination?

A single glass of grapefruit juice can improve the oral bioavailability of a drug thus either increasing its efficacy or enhancing its adverse effects particularly if the therapeutic index is narrow. Grapefruit juice acts by inhibiting presystemic drug metabolism mediated by CYP P450 3A4 in the small bowel and this interaction would appear to be more relevant if the CYP 3A4 content is high and the drug has a strong first pass degradation. Intestinal P-glycoprotein may also be affected by grapefruit juice. The compounds responsible for this food-drug interaction have not as yet been identified but this phenomenon could result from a complex synergy between flavonoids (naringin, naringenin), furanocoumarins (6',7'-dihydroxybergamottin, bergamottin) and sesquiterpen (nootkatone). In our study, we report the mechanisms of action of grapefruit juice and the interactions between grapefruit juice and 42 drugs; to date.
