stil good unless you go so far as to burn it. As long as it just melts its fine!

Why worry? Using Kitchen Chemistry or a Mel-temp the amount needed to perform is miniscule. All you need is to plug one end of a capilary tube. Depending on crystal size it cold be as little as 10mg to 50mg. Using aymore would not be wise as it will heat unevenly.

If you are serious about homebrew purchase a mel-temp. They are excellent for precisely determining the melting point of powders. They occassionaly are sold on ebay. There is one for sale now at a good price. Here's a link

or just go to www.ebay.com and type mel-temp into the search criteria.

This is VERY true.. Capilary tube is a must if this is going to be done.. otherwise, it's a waste of time.. If you are melting so much compound, that you are concerned about it's recovery, there's a pretty good chance you are using way more than you need to.
