I'm curious as to who here competes. I've been weight training for about 20 years. I took a few years off a few years back, but have been hard at it for the last few years straight with the intention of getting into competition shape. I've teetered back and forth on when this might actually be, and have decided to do my first show in July in Virginia. I'm practically sick just thinking about it, and I'm not shy or afraid to be in front of crowds...

I'd like to talk more with any of you guys that have contest experience about being as prepared as I can be. I'm really still a newbie when it comes to pre-show training, diet, diuretics, posing, music selection, and so on. Any experiences or best practices shared would be great.

The BodyRock in Fairfax July 13th. If all goes well, I might do the Conquest Championships in Richmond on 9/21 too.

My first show brought me a 2nd place in a state championship as a light heavy - but I realized I'd have to be substantially bigger to really do business where it mattered most, so I did not compete again for many, many years - when next I hit the stage it was as a super heavy and I basically cleaned house to where I am now. Only a few choice shows but total domination. Now, this could be my year to turn pro. Dudes have continued to get bigger every year - hell, now I'm far beefier than two old buds who have been successful pros for some time, but there are some real leviathons currently preparing for those pro card shots. Everybody likes to rush me - assuring me I'm there for this year - but I know my body and with the progress I'm experiencing lately, if I were to sit this year's show out and do it next year, I know I could come in a little better than 260.
