Could someone break down carb cycling for me in the amount of carbs I should eat on what days. I have always just dropped the carbs almost completely out when trying to lose weight but lately that has been driving me nuts so I am looking for a new approach, thanks.

Hey Bro,

Unless you're able and willing to keep your body in Ketosis going low carb can be more detremental than eating moderate carbs.

Your body needs a source of energy,  in the proper states you can utilize fat for that, but it assumes all glycogen stores are gone and have been for a certain period of time (depending on the individual).  It's quite a commitment.  I suggest you read Lyle MacDonald's book on the Cyclic Ketogenic Diet for a complete picture of carb cycling.

When you put your body into a state where there is not enough energy to support it, and there's no alternate supply, then the first thing your body will do is utilize the glycogen stored in your muscles for energy -- making you feel weak and your muscles looking thin.  If you stay in this state long enough you'll find yourself in a starvation mode -- storing ALL calories that you bring in as fat and eating away at the muscle for energy.

Personally I prefer to maintain a moderate carb level with the majorty comming from a balance of LOW GI carbs.   You'll have a steady energy level and will be able to utilize proper pre and post workout nutrition without screwing up your diet.

More importantly it's alot easier to go between bulking and cutting cycles,  you maintain your sanity and you can actually find something to eat at most restraunts!

I just eat controlled amounts of high quality carbs like oatmeal, sweet potatoes, and broccoli several times a day.  Cutting carbs does work for a quick jump-start on cutting IMO, but like sgr said already, long term sucks for lots of reasons.  If you eat the good carbs in moderation along with plenty of lean protein and good fats, then you'll have no problem burning fat during a cutting cycle.
