TODAY'S THE DAY!!

Does anybody else feel like a kid at Christmas, or is it just me? It's the day of the big fight boys and girls so hold on to your wigs and keys!!

Lewis, the giant of todays boxing world, is already proclaiming greatness. He thinks he is comparable to Ali. He may even think he's better than Ali. Although he would never say it to the public. He's tall and has the reach, he's got lot's of skill, and he's got all kinds of power......Oh yeah, I suppose he has the ego too. But, alas, Lennox is sadly mistaken if he thinks he is anywhere close to the Legend that is Ali. The traits that Lewis lacks that made Ali the greatest are the drive, the heart, the speed, and the chin. I find it hard to look at someone who has been beaten by Hasim Rahman because he comes into the ring like a slob, or puts off a performance as pitiful (dominating but uninspired) as he did against Tua, as a truely great boxer.

Tyson, the madman of todays boxing world, is not as concerned about greatness anymore. He just wants to be remembered as a true champ. I am sympathetic towards Mike's plight. He's not that bright, he's been ripped off, tossed around, mishandled, manipulated, slandered, and misrepresented. He's been nothing but a gravy train since he was 18 years old. When he was a kid he had no guidance and as an adult he has no guidance. The only person who truly ever gave a damn about poor Mike, because he was Mike and not because he saw dollar signs in his eyes, was Cus D'amato. He just needs some direction, someone to give a damn about Mike, not the millions of dollars he can generate in one evening. I truly and honestly believe that the way Tyson acts towards the world is a reflection of the way he sees the world acting towards him. Why is that? There could be lots of reasons, but I don't know Tyson personally so they would all be speculation.

One way or the other this is a huge do for boxing fans. Love or hate Tyson, ya can't miss it. If it turns out to be a serious boxing match it will go down in history, if it doesn't, it will still go down in history. If Lewis wins it will further solidify his claim to greatness, If Tyson wins, the fight will be remembered by the world along the same lines as rumble in the jungle, because whether it's Tyson or not, the world always remebers fondly the time they were shocked by the underdog.

Well, it's all over. All but the cryin' that is. Lewis made it look easy. It was to be expected of course, a disapointment for Tyson fans, but at least they can take comfort in the fact that he showed some true class. A sportsman in defeat. I give him credit for that. As well as credit to Lewis for a masterful display. A boxer at his finest.
