Lee Labrada under FIRE?

You guys in Houston may already know that the mayor appointed Labrada as sort of a guru-fitness-spokesperson in effort to try and get Houston in shape... It was on the news today that nutritionists in the area who have reviewed his suggestions have criticized Lee's dietary recommendations, citing that there is toooo much protien in his plan and that the "excess protien" will certainly cause kidney problems in otherwise healthy individuals. Labrada was interviewed and stated that his program for the average student suggested, for example, 3-4 egg whites for breakfast, 4 oz grilled chicken breast for lunch, and 4 oz fish for dinner. According to the USDA, that's 3 times the RDA for protien... Lee's out to kill us????
Tooooooo funny. It wouldn't be too hard to believe that there will eventually be laws set up governing the way we eat.... for our own safety and protection, of course.
By the way, Labrada's website for the Houston project is at http://www.getleanhouston.com/
I really like the guy, but the website ain't all that great.

SHIIIIIIIIIIT! I live in Houston, have for 22 years. We are the fattest city in the nation and have more restaurants per sq. mile than any other city in the nation. But as a personal trainer it keeps me in business, so I say FUCK getting the fat people in shape...that'll hurt my money... ;)

gymrat69 do u work for urself as a pt or a gym,and how muc money do you make for an average week, and how many hours do you train people a week?

I worked for myself for about 2 years, made good money but was too much work marketing myself while in school, so I went to a gym. I've been there for 3 years now and average around $25 an hour and train 25-30 clients a week. I made more money per hour(session) on my own because I got all of it, but ALOT went to advertising, paying the gym to let me train, and misc. equipment my clients needed. It's easier for ME to be at a gym because they do all the marketing, already have a stable base of members, and even sign up clients at the point of sale. Once I graduate I've considered going back to training on my own, but it just depends on what my chiropractic school schedule is. BTW I'll be graduating in the end of the summer with a BS in Biomechanics and a BS in Exercise Physiology. Having this extensive schooling and along with 3 National, highly respected certifications will allow me to charge at MINIMUM $60/hr. But that can range higher, and possibly lower depending on session packages. If you got more questions Presser, drop me an email... [email protected]

They should read the cover of last Sunday's New York Times Magazine.

Apparently, it turns out that Dr. Atkins was right -- a high protein/fat diet is healthier than a high carb one. Nutritionists will continue to object to this but preliminary research indicates he was right. In fact, it was at just the point the US gov't decided carbs shoiuld be the main basis of the diet that Americans began getting obese in record numbers.
