I would say work it in w/your back....do it first in the routine. I personally dont dead lift, but when I did I worked it in first w/my back and always made sure I was warmed up you know all that b/s. I would run 3 works sets pyramidding, hope that helps

Dead lifts are a great mass builder. There are many ways to work them as far as how many reps, sets, intensity etc. It's a preference and it depends on how you train.
For myself I stick in the 6-8 rep range after I am warmed up and eventually work my way down to 1-2 reps. Unfortuneatly, last week i messed up me knee. This damn fina makes you too strong too fast!

I started off by adding it in on a sunday (when I was lifting mon-fri and weekends off) just to see how it felt. Quickly moved it to my normal back day, and now that I'm doing 3 days on, 1 day off, I finish up my back/biceps/forearms day with them. I start off relatively light, and work my way up to very heavy (for me), up to what I can do 1 rep with. Then I usually do a set of 6-8 of a much lighter weight. It's definitely added some mass to my back, and helped my forearms as well! :D

I forgot to say that I do them every other back workout (so only once every 8 days).

Also, by doing them last, I'm not lifting quite as much weight (down at least 30 lbs on my 1 rep lift(s)).

I agree with WeirdAl on the everyother back day...try starting them on the rack with pins set to keep the barbell at just below knee level. From the floor to the knees, deadlifts hit legs and lower back more than traps and upper back. I do 2 warmup sets, then 4 work sets pyramiding the weight up as I move the reps down...15, 12, 10, 8.

i work them in with my back routine first and pyramid the sets, the reason i like to do them first is i dont have to worry about some muscles being pre exhausted and screwing up my back any!
also i tend to do them at a slow pace.

i usually go up one plate at a time like this

135x15
225x10
315x10
405x6-8
500xfailure

seems to work well moved my deadlift up to 600

Nothing like a deadlift headache. Gotta do them at least once every two weeks (or every two back work outs), if not more. You cant get good mass in the back without them. Also you can move some serious weight in a deadlift which is a huge psych

One thing I like about deadlift is that I'm not afraid to go to failure like I am on squats.

i do them every week. one week i will do them first. the next week i work hams, then back and deadlift last. this cuts down on the amt of weight and i try to do more reps. this will really finish you off. if i do them at the end i usually go like this

225x10-12 i start here because i am already warmed up
315x10
405x8+
