Hey all, I started to go on one of these when I started trying to cut up. My best friend has been a solo trainer at various Golds Gyms for years, and competes in shows..

He advised me against it. He said that it's extremely hard on your kidneys, and that when you do your carb up days, and when you stop the diet, that your body is more likely to start storing all future carbs as fat because it sees itself as starving.

So, I'm wondering, I think I'm getting pretty good results by keeping my carbs low, and in the morning or early afternoon, about 150 - 200 a day.

But, would a CKD be far more effective, do you guys think they are safe? Do you think they are worth the trouble for the difference they can make over my current diet?

If anyone needs more details I'll be happy to give them,

thanks,

KC

I prefer low carbs, but not a ketogenic diet. Keto only makes me feel like shit the whole time, and my workouts suffer considerably.

I don't think you can not help losing muscle while doing a keto, unless it's for a short period of time.

I AGREE. I LIKE THE LOW CARB WITH MAXIMUM OF 100 CARBS A DAY AND 70% COMING DIRECTLY POST WORKOUT.

I think that the CKD works but it's not for everyone. I did it for a while with good results (go check out my pics) but you really feel like shit and you have to watch everything you drink or eat so damn close it’s not funny. Heavy leg days are almost impossible. I think you can get 80% there with low carbs say 60-80 grams per day and will probably be more comfortable in the process.

Im on a CKD right now. I hate being on it, but it works for me. I dont have much energy and the cravings for carbs are tough but, i like the results i have gotten. Some people may not respond as well so its not for everyone.

worked good for fat loss, but energy levels sucked, even after a month. w/out eca i couldnt have made it through my days.

also i couldnt gain muscle on it, even on a cycle.

Cutting down and cleaning up the quality of the carbs you take in makes a great difference in cutting and burning fat. If you slowly add carbs back into your eating plan upon going back to higher carb meals you'll tend to put off that bounce back affect. Reality is, any diet you go off of you'll gain weight back on.

I start by cleaning up the carbs first removing the low quality carbs and switching them to only high quality carbs, except post workout, then gradually lower them over my cutting cycle.

But I still take in about 80 grams simple carbs post workout and leave my low carb plan with about 20% total carbs, 40 protein and 40 fat. I think this is healthier and more effective than a strict low carb ketogenic diet.

Personally I have better results from a moderate carb/protein diet. The key is to make the carb sources highly complex, no starchs and sugars with limited grains.

For cutting, 12 cals per lb of body weight, 1.25 gms of protein per lb and 15-20% fat -- Usually works out to around 40/20/40

The nice thing about this diet is that it's a lifestyle change, you stay on it in various forms regardless of your goals...

Quality carbs is the key for me. Keeping a clean diet, except for the occassional cheat meal, works well it just takes longer. Take in the majority of your carbs before 1pm-2pm and make sure your fat intake is quality fats.

ECA definately helps with energy levels.

CKD's are fantastic, but not for everyone. Personally I thrive extremely well on them, and my energy levels even go up.

However, they are not suited for heavy weight lifting sessions, but that can be cured with adding some pre and post carb loadings. It's not well suited for mass building though.

I've done three 6 months long CKD's so far and they worked real well. The one from last year made my body like in the members forum.

It's kinda hard to stick with 'm for long times though.

I'm not a fan of the CKD diet. It makes me moody, tired, and feel like shit. Also, the rebound effect that your body goes into after you stop the diet makes actually being on the diet a big waste.
