hey here's the deal. my school sucks balls and it blocks kazza, morpheus, ect. i dunno if this is with a firewall or not because i am not real comp smart. do any of you know ways to get around this or something i can download that will speed my downloads up. they only download with like .04 speed, when they would usually be in the 20's! thanks for any help

This might work http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/pmapper.htm

Use it to map port 1214 (kazaa port) to port 80

Ok when it's started you will see it in the system tray. Right click on it and click configure. Then click configure mapping. Click Add then the first where enter port put 1214 then put 80 where it says enter target. If you need more help let me know. I am testing it too to see how well it works.

i changed the port like you said but it still downloads at the same speed. could my ports be different than yours or are they standard? also, what do you think the chances of getting caught are if you use a program that "bypasses" the firewall for downloads?

You shouldn't get caught and if ya do I'm sure it would just be a warning. I am looking into other things to do.

Another computer question?? Is there a way to get a better download speed from your modem at home? I go through my regular phone line and my speed is always 24600kbs, but yet if I take my laptop to a buddy's place it'll be almost be 56000kbs?? WTF is that no fair! Is there another way to speed that up other than getting a cable/dsl line?
Thanks guys! :p

No not to my acknowledgment! Could it be due to living in an apartment?? You would think there would be a way though to get a better connection speed!

Most of the time the problem is with bad phonelines outside or in, I had the same problem before, the building I was in had phone lines from the early 70's

These apartments are within 5-7 yrs old only! Not sure what the cause actually is I wish I knew a way to get around it though! Might just have to get cable internet!

Ok got some bad news. You will not get good speed. You could do http tunneling but wouldn't go over 10 kb/s. I would try http://www.winmx.com because it will go around blocked ports fine and get full speed.

hey user, it says it is unable to receive an incoming tcp connection from the internet, does this mean i have to manually config it and if so what do you recommend?

On winmx do manual and it will ask if you can open port 6699 and 6257 and click no. Then on the front of winmx make sure it's check to make a secondary connection to the network. It work kinda like http tunneling and you will connect to winmx network through someone that has a primary connection.

i used the mapportter and put both to port 80 and i think it worked, but if not your saying to click no in manual config, then search for connections again?
