Adequan human use. Better joints.

First off Adequan, Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan, is made by Luitpold Pharmaceuticals. In the US it's resold by vet suppliers and comes in 3 versions. There's a version for dogs: Adequan Canine. And two for horses: Adequan Equine i.m. for intramuscular injection. And Adequan Equine i.a. for injection directly into the joint. The Equine versions come in a single use 5 ml vial designed for injection all at once. The canine version is the same as i.m. but comes in 5 ml multi use vials and has 0.9% benzyl alcohol added to prolong sterile shelf life. They all require a prescription from a vet.

It's also sold in Europe for human use under the trade name Arteparon. Presently FDA has not approved it for human use in USA.

Adequan's specific mechanism of action is not known. But it's been shown to help keep the cartilage healthy and intact, so the bone in the joint cannot touch other bones.

Recommended dosage for dogs is 2 mg per pound of body weight, twice weekly for up to 4 weeks. Another way to figure it is 1 ml per 50 pounds body weight twice weekly for 8 injections. For horses it's 500 mg twice a week. So to gauge human dose it's plausible to pick something in between. I've read about some using it personally taking anywhere from 200-300 mg twice a week, or some take 100 mg per day. After the initial 4 week treatment, a maintenance injection once a month at the same dose is common.

I decided to try 200 mg of Adequan every 3 days. That is the same average as 233 mg twice a week. That's a conservative dose.

I'd wanted to get the Canine version, but my source only had Equine i.m. I'd definitely avoid the i.a. unless you really know what you're doing injecting into your joints. I was a little worried about the unused portion of a single use vial sitting in storage for up to 6 days, but I don't think it's caused any problems.

I had 4 issues with my joints that I wanted to help:

One elbow developed tendonitis after I stressed it twisting some pipe about a year ago. Doctor recommended some exercises, like 50 rep wrist curls, Chondroitin sulfate, and Glucosamine sulfate but they haven't helped. One shoulder has been painful for many years. It's difficult to raise my arm above head and I can't lie down on that side for long. Doctor gave me a course of ultrasound treatments but without relief. This and the elbow pain limit my bench press. One side of my hip is noticeably less limber than the other side. Certain leg motions are painful, but it does not usually bother me much. One foot has arch troubles that occasionally flare up making me limp a bit.

My first shot I did only 100 mg to test for possible side effects and allergic reactions. There were none.

Then I went up to 200 mg every 3 days. There was some soreness at the injection site. Some might be more used to it, but I'm not.

After 2 weeks I noticed in the shower that my shoulder was not bothering me as much as usual. It could have been relieved by the hot water; that's sometimes soothing.

Yesterday, after the 7th injection (3 weeks) for the first time in over a year the pain in my elbow was quite suddenly and completely gone. This stuff works.

I still have the hip and foot issues, and the shoulder isn't 100%, But I'm going to keep this up and see what happens.

---------------------------- Followup 3 months later:

I last reported after 3 weeks of use. I'd planned to go 4 weeks then reduce to a maintnance dose of once a month. As I reported earlier after 3 weeks the pain in my elbows was quite suddenly and completely gone.

I continued my use for the 4th week. Elbow problems were still gone but no change in shoulder, hip, or foot. I wanted to see if those could be helped so I decided to extend my use for 2 additional weeks at the same dose, 200mgm every 3 days.

No further progress on shoulder, hip, or foot. So I stopped using it.

About a month later I noticed just a bit of the same soreness I had in my elbow earlier. It wasn''t much, a fraction of the discomfort I'd had before. So I took 100mgm as a maintenance dose. That didn't seem to do much, so I took another 3 days later. That did the trick.

So a second month went by and I took a maintenance dose of 200 mgm. I'm still free of elbow pain.

Going to see the Dr about shoulder, hip, and foot.

Oh for the maintenance doses I mixed about 1% benzyl alcohol with the Adequan. Since I'm reusing single use vials after they sit on a shelf for a couple months I figured it would be prudent to minimize chance of infection by adding BA. Not much, just 2-3 little tics on an insulin pin inserted into the 5ml vial.

Just got new script for Synvisc one and hoping insurance company springs for the new version and not the multiple injection version like they did years ago, in any case, excited to get this again, as my knees are shit!

Has anyone here used Adequan recently or know of anything else new being raved about?

My resolution for 2017 is get knees fixed and then maybe the back lol.
