T4 is 1 of 4 endogenously produced thyroid hormones. By itself, T4 is inactive and must be converted to T3 in order to be active. Interestingly, your body has its own natural circadian rhythm and this dictates many physiological processes, including converting T4 to T3. Studies have found that around 3AM is peak of this conversion, so that when you wake up you have high levels of T3 and your metabolism is humming along to start the day.

If you are supplementing with/prescribed T4, it should be taken at bedtime in order to coincide with your body's circadian rhythm. Most people take thyroid meds first thing in the morning, but this can actually be counterproductive to what you're trying to accomplish, i.e. Increasing metabolism and fat loss. Timing is everything and I hope this helps out.
