Phosphatidylserine(PS) is the amino acid serine bonded to a phosphate-based fatty acid(2 fatty acids actually). This greatly enhances the ability for the molecule to cross the BBB. A lot of companies will add this very expensive ingredient to their products and make claims about cortisol reduction.

There are 2 things of which you should be aware: 1) PS is a 50% material, meaning that a dose of 400mg is actually only 200mg of PS. The reason for this is because it’s a very greasy molecule. 2)The lowest effective dose in a study for reducing cortisol is 800mg/d, but there is 1 small study that uses 600mg/d. However, the studies do not say if that is the total dose of PS or if it is the 50% material. This means you would have to take 1600mg/d of the 50% material(which is found in all supps) to get the effective dose, which is extremely expensive. Don’t be fooled by companies that use 600-800mg and say that it’s the effective dose. It’s only half the effective dose. Definitely avoid expensive products that have lower doses like 200-400mg. Read the fine print!
