Here is a prime example of the hypocrisy of big pharma.
For years, there has been a ton of anecdotal evidence that cannabidiol(CBD), a non-psychoactive constituent of hemp and cannabis, may help with tons of ailments for which treatments are sparse. Epileptic seizures is just one example of this. Well, it seems now after years of saying that marijuana has NO MEDICINAL VALUE(schedule 1 drug), the FDA is about to turn a $20 bottle of CBD that many use for treatment in states where cannabis is legal, as well as the hemp-derived CBD which should be legal via the industrial Hemp Farming Act, into a very expensive, prescription only drug.
The research team for GW randomly divided 171 patients aged between 2 and 55 into two groups, one of which received Epidiolex, while the other received a placebo. Over the 14-week study period, 44% of the patients taking the CBD-based drug saw a significant reduction in seizures. While this is a step in the right direction, will CBD now be claimed “for drug use only” and be banned as an dietary supplement? CBD has already started to hit the supp market, however with this FDA approval, it may all go away. “All for the mighty dollar, not the help of the people.” What do you guys think of this??
