I was struggling to keep muscle as I cleaned up my diet to get a little leaner. A friend, who was also the trainer at the gym where I worked out, told me I should try Beverly’s Mass Aminos and Ultra 40. He told me this would help me keep my muscle, and even add some, even though I was dieting to lose fat. I was somewhat skeptical because I had no idea how my body would react to that many tablets. He said, "You’ll be fine," and then went on to tell me that if I didn’t see major improvements within a few weeks he would buy the products back from me. I thought "What do I have to lose? Not anymore muscle, I hope." I saw results within weeks. I continued to lean out, but was no longer sacrificing strength, stamina or lean muscle.
A few months later he noticed my improvements and suggested that I enter an NPC Bodybuilding Competition. The show was in two months. I told him I didn’t think I had enough time to get ready for something like that. He told me, "That’s too bad! You have the physique to enter this competition, but you’re not brave enough to step on stage and showcase it." Boy, did that fuel my fire to get my butt in gear. Not only did I enter the competition, but I won my class.

OK, I proved my point. I had basically entered the competition to show him I was brave enough to step on stage and to finally shut him up. I told him that bodybuilding was not my cup of tea and that would be my 1st and last show. Or at least I thought it was.

After the show, I continued to use the Ultra 40 and Mass Aminos because I liked the results I got from them. I began reading up on all of Beverly International’s products to see if there was something else that would speed my gains even further. Next I added Ultimate Muscle Protein and Mass Maker Ultra to my daily regime. No matter how good a product claims to be, if it does not taste good or has a nasty aftertaste as many of the MRP’s on the market today do, I’d be wasting my money, because I wouldn’t use it. Expecting the worst, I was thrilled with the ridiculously amazing taste of these two proteins. They also proved extremely versatile.

Before long I was not just blending it, but making pudding, brownies and even mixing it in to my favorite cereals. The brownie is simple to make. I mix 1 scoop chocolate Muscle Provider with a little water, stir it, and then microwave it for 20 seconds or so.

Then in January of 2002 I found out I was pregnant. I was ELATED! I continued to eat healthy, train and rest but did not take any supplementation but what the doctor ordered. November of that year, I was blessed with my precious daughter Madison.By the summer of 2003 I began to get the itch to step on stage again. This would be an even bigger challenge than that first contest. I was going to have to make some drastic changes physically and had a new addition to my family to care for this time around.

Once I made the decision to compete, I couldn’t wait to put Beverly International’s supplements to the test again. I started taking Glutamine Select/Ultra 40/Mass Aminos/Lean Out and Muscle Provider. Dieting was going good, but I started experiencing some lower back pain and my training was suffering. I thought I could work through it and went on to compete but was not at my best. Still I placed top three.
But my back pain was getting worse by the day. Finally, I went to a specialist and found out a herniated disc [L5]. I was devastated. But, all and all, I was holding it together. My mental state was far better than my physical state. I couldn’t sleep, walk, sit, drive, turn my head, sneeze or even tie my shoes! I’m stubborn, so I waited to see if the pain would subside but when it didn’t, I decided to see my doctor again. I am not one for cortisone shots, surgery or medication so he decided to send me to Kessler Physical Rehabilitation. I had to go three times per week for four months. Being as active as I am, working full time, operating a gift basket business, wife, mother, and personal trainer, this was the most difficult thing I have ever had to endure.

There was an upcoming bodybuilding show I wanted to participate in. Can you imagine? What was I thinking?! I thought I was Super Woman and would recover from this like I do the lactic acid buildup I get when doing leg extensions. Well at Kessler, they had faith in me and thought anything was possible so we decided to take it one day at a time. The show came and went, but I still couldn’t train and did not participate. As upsetting as that was, I knew recovery took precedence over anything else.

Throughout this period of incapacitation I did continue to take my Beverly supplements. I still had my heart set on competing again. I wanted to keep as much muscle as possible even though my workouts consisted of slow walks on the treadmill and super light upper body workouts.
Day by day things started to let up. I started thinking "hmmm... what if I tune up my diet as if I was going to do the September Natural mania body building show and everything else starts to fall in to place? ’If it happens, it happens’" was the mentality I needed to have. If nothing else, I’ll end up with a toned, lean physique out of the deal. So that’s what I did. I trained smart, tuned up my nutrition, and ramped up my supplements with the best of the best.
By September I’m 95% better. I’m proud that a took on this HUGE challenge. I was going to be OK. Two weeks before the show, I decided to put myself through one more "last minute challenge" and decided to enter the Figure division in addition to the bodybuilding portion. Something I NEVER contemplated doing. As a bodybuilder the only thing I kept thinking to myself was "great... now I have to wear those shoes! UGH!" I reminded myself how that injury discouraged me at times BUT I never gave up. Even though I knew I was not 100%, I still gave it all I had. At every show, right before I step on stage I tell myself that I am already a winner and I am wearing my trophy. I always say "anything worth having is worth sacrificing for." Right before I hit the stage a friend of mine told me I was an inspiration. No matter what life threw my way, I tackled it head on, kept smiling and continued to move forward. I WAS WOW’d! Now, the results are in. I placed 2nd out of four in the bodybuilding class and 3rd out of 8 in the figure class. I was elated!
But I wasn’t finished. I decided I will not stop this year until I get my natural pro card in bodybuilding. I’ve worked too long and too hard to just stop. Besides, what does not kill me, makes me stronger. The pro qualifier was June 30, 2007. Today I’m at the top of my game. No let downs in training, nutrition or my Beverly supplement program. My game face is on; I’m walk on stage with my class and wait to hear those well-know words to any competitor, "Quarter turn to the right." That night I finally did it. I WON MY PRO CARD! WNBF Pro Bodybuilder! WOOHOO!

Healthy nutrition, weight training and quality supplements are imperative in achieving a winning physique. I have benefited GREATLY from every Beverly supplement that I have ever used. Beverly International has truly played an intricate role in my winning physique. The results speak for themselves. After all that hard work and dedication, I refuse to hinder my progress with inferior and sometimes detrimental supplements. I stick with Beverly International to achieve my goals.
Although this journey was long, and sometimes discouraging and overwhelming, in the end it has left me a wiser and more grateful person. No longer will I take the simple day to day things in life for granted nor will I ever forget where I came from and how giving up was not an option. Believe in yourself, stay focused, never say never and have faith. Good things really do come to those who wait.
