Curious who all here owns a 3D Printer and what type etc... and who is into 3D Printing and what 3d Design Software they use for their 3D Modeling and Printing?

keeping this bumped up for those who are into 3D printing, own 3D Printers, are beginners or novice 3D Printers, or very proficient in 3D Printing.

Anyone????

Don't know much about them, except they got on on Duck Dynasty and those guys went nuts printing everything they could think of.

Makerbot for just beginners and soildworks. My buddy can teach people how to use em. Our college has a uprint.

Having not seen the show, what were they printing?

Well it started when one lost his spoon and Jep said he could print him a spoon, and did. So, they all got interested and started thinking of new things to print. They ended up with a wiffle ball and a small bat. Then of course Willie tells them that he bought it to print new duck call prototypes, which I think they were also able to do pretty quickly.

I have designed some stuff in CAD and had it sent out to be printed. I wouldn't buy one. Just send it out to a 3D hub. People with the latest equipment bid on it and make it for you.

why wouldnt you just buy yourself a 3d printer and print it yourself rather than send it out to someone? I love 3d printing shit myself and boom shortly after I create it or load the file its right there in front of me ready to be used .

and what CAD program do you use? I have been using Tinkercad , but found that I had to go out and buy a mouse for my MacBook Pro cause it makes it easier in my opinion

For really easy things, I just use SketchUp software and convert it to .stl file. I wouldn't buy a printer because as often as I print (maybe a few times per year), it doesn't make financial sense. I design it up and have someone would owns a high end printer create it for virtually nothing.

I see, what have you designed and printed up and is it for personal or is this something you do for work?

Im just starting out basically, but the shit I want to print is endless lol but im mainly trying to get a 3d printing forum off the ground, which is why Ive asked this. Looking for people interested in 3d printing. I forgot how hard it was to get a forum off the ground, lol, and especially in this area, as most people have no clue what it even is! My sister-in-law last night had me pull up youtube videos as she hadn’t known anything about 3d printers or that they even existed and I think most folks are like this.

Anyhow lol, appreciate your response daddio,

I usually print things for my car. It's pretty rare and it is highly modified, so finding parts is challenging. I would start by getting on a 3D Hub and having them print some of your designs. You would get more familiar with how it all works and more familiar with the different types of printers. If you really do start printing a lot, it may make sense to invest in a printer. Just remember, you pay for what you get and the technology is evolving every day.

Yeah, im familiar with all the printers / types etc.. and I own a couple 3d printers now. What I was trying to say was its hard to get a forum like this (musclechemistry.com) going in this 3d printing area , I was hoping to find some guys or girls on here with experience in 3d printing who could help rep over at our new 3d printing forum.

In any case, sorry if I wasnt clear, and your right the shit is moving fast and im just learning everything now lol, never in a million years did I think I would learn CAD lol

I also think that soon we will start to see commercial on television advertising 3d printers, just like car commercials and cel phones commercials, soon every other commercial will be a 3d printer company or filament company etc... and I have purchased about 500 domain names in the 3d printing area, so im ALL IN!! as every household will shortly have a 3d printer in it just like they do a computer!

So with that said, anyone who has even a smidgen of experience is welcome to join me over there in building the forum up!

Tinkercad is good, but I'm not sure I like the browser-based app. I'm going to try SketchUp to see how that goes.
