Don't Be a Gym Marker

It's inconsiderate and everyone thinks you're a wanker.

by John Romano

“Markers" are people who will occupy three or four pieces of equipment and mark their territory with a towel at one station, their gym bag and some straps at another, a sweaty shirt at another, and so on. They're doing some kind of circuit during prime time and want to reserve their spots with an assortment of odd clothing, grimy towels, and personal crap.

I can understand leaving a towel on a bench to save it because you have to run to the bathroom or fill up your water bottle, but marking half the gym with your shit and expecting everyone to respect the fact that you're taking up all this space – because you're 135 pounds, have more zits than muscle, and believe that circuit training is your salvation – is as rude and inconsiderate as it is nuts.

The gym does not belong to you. When I see some jerk-off doing that, and they're taking their sweet time making the rounds, I usually take all their shit, bring it to the front desk and ask that their stuff be put in the lost and found. Someone obviously forgot it, right? The look on their face when they scour the gym looking for their stuff is priceless.

These guys kill me, too. I did 4 sets of bent over rows, and this was his position the whole time.

I have seen this many times also. Guys spending more time playing with their cell phone than actually training. The worst part is that they take up a piece of equipment for a half hour. These guys seem to hang around for a few months then they disappear. A few will hang around for a whole year and when they leave they look exactly the way they did the day they joined. Well, at least they got some exercise. LOL

I posted this a while back, its like sit down on bench, adjust ear buds, look for fav song, re-adjust ear buds, elapsed time; 47 seconds, effectively usiing up one set time just getting set....then of course half way into set, re-adjust buds, skip to another song...jeez just DO THE SET DICKWAD

Let's not forget about the one girl who is only there for attention....150$ gym out fit and 150$ shoes full make up...using the squat machine,,,and in between sets spends 10 min or more flirting with whatever guy happens to fir the jersey shore stereotype...but when you walk over to use quickly runs over and says I'm not done yet....so I say OK and stand there right in front of the machine until she feels uncomfortable and moves on.

Oh man, I would boot him off of that bench so fast his head would spin. None of that crap is gonna happen in my gym.

My gym is usually empty in the evenings, but last night I had a gym marker sighting. Filthy towels and sweaty shirt in four different places, even though I was the only other person there! I gathered and dumped his gross crap right in front of him while he was grunting like a jackass and counting his reps in Spanish. Good times!

The best part is that he was using way too much weight for his strength, and his form was garbage because of it. Silly rabbit.

lmao. maybe gyms ought to have a policy against it, and make it an automatic ban for two or three weeks if they do it.

It is a sad, sad world we live in. I hate Cell Phones!!!! There I said it.

heck, i leave mine lay around the house and forget it all the time.
yet i see ppl w/ cell phone acting like it's an appendage.
not many ppl call me, and i don't call many either.
i prefer doing workouts at home. nothing fancy.
free weights, rack w/ pull up bar, bench, lat machine.
i'm not looking to do any contest though either.

I am old school. I use a ipod and leave my phone in the bag at the gym. I leave it on the shelves and do not drag it around the gym with me like a baby with a blanket.

I heard a good one last night about why can't we all get along. He said, powerlifters, bodybuilders, Strong Men and Cross fit..... hell you all still just lifting weights. Now get a long!!
