My gym manager wear too hard core??

So heres my issue, I hired a gal some time ago to do outside marketing at my gym, she used to work at a few other facilities so she had some experience. I have put her out in the public going to businesses handing out passes to gym...have had very little response so I'm politely nudging her and informing her that her part time job here cant go on much longer w little revenue coming in so she tells me that part of problem is that I don't dress the part

You see, my gym is about as hard core as one can get in a small rural market. I'm old school as hell, I usually wear tank top and shorts every day I'm at work as I train different times of the day, been doing this for 29 yrs now and this is how comfortable I feel. I do have lots of Polo shirts but dont feel very comfy in them plus I sweat in the summer in them. I just feel that given that this is a independent small hard training gym, sure my attire could be better but think its appropriate for this setting.

But I'm open to suggestions, I know the fluffy fitness industry has thier staff in pullover shirts and all, how quaint! Or maybe is she trying to divert the blame to me for her lack of performance? Maybe i wear the wife beaters when I train, then polo shirts rest of time? Then I'm forever changing shirts, hell I dont know!!?

Your members are your bread and butter. Instead of spending money on a person to go out and market your business, work with your members and have a member drive and reward the top 5 people that sign up the most new members.

It is your business and when you train, wear what you want. But to be the face of the gym, you might want to market yourself in a more professional manner, such as polo shirts with your gym logo. Just my 2 cents brother.

I suppose yr right, I just needed to hear it from a platehead as opposed to someone who thinks a bench press is a manufactoring tool! :)

I guess on top of being comfortable in a wife beater, I mean I'm no Ronnie Coleman but have a bodybuilder body and my logic was simple, by looking at me in a muscle tank, I would gain instant creditability as opposed to the preppy polo look. Is this convoluted thinking? Am I missing something?

If you're trying to attract new people to your gym, you need the polo shirt. The tank top dudes are already at your gym and didn't need the free pass to get there.

I agree with this yes most of us on the boards are cool with gym clothes but others may want a more professional look.

God I hate when you guys make sense!:) OK I'll ditch the tank top (except when I'm training, which is a split routine) not much time invested in changing shirts. I just always thought it looked more hard core, which is does but I have to face facts, in this little hick town, its the mainstreams that pay the bills, not the hard cores....
