From heavy metal to Rap. What do you listen to during or prior to a workout. Include cardio music if you want.

At my gym I started putting on xm channel 39, Hair nation, heavy metal like Queensryche, Scorpians, Ozzy, Def Leppard etc. At first I thought the 65 & over crowd or the under 40 would bitch but not a peep from them, most the younger one have personal music on, maybe the older ones cant hear it LOL

Or maybe they all like the high energy atmosphere I'm trying to preach here too

Wish I could more harder but that pushing the envelope!

I can't listen to music something I just never did. But if I did Five Finger Death Punch, there new CD is good

Anything but that rap crap. That is not music.
I made mistake one time, put on the hip hop station, everything was F this, F that, it lasted about 30 min

The 90's channel not too bad, before rap got too nasty, but had many dudds, I actually like some early rap, good beats but that was long time ago

up until very recently, I was a Metallica / old school kinda music guy, but recently I have found myself listening to Thousand foot Krutch and similar

I can listen to about anything. I'm usually jamming out to something heavier becuase it gets me in my zone!!!

five finger death punch. Metallica, slip knot, ac dc, priest. I'm old I need all the help I can get.

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't need Metal to workout? I switch around a lot. Sometimes it's old country, 70's rock, 80's hair bands, classic R&B, whatever. Pretty much never rap anymore, unless it's an old Tupac album. And sometimes an old Metallica or Pantera album. I just want to hear good music, I don't need it to motivate me or pump me up.

Changing the subject a bit..............greatest workout song of all time...........my vote. Bullet for my Valentine's "my betrayal".

One of the best intro's of all time, blood starts to move as soon as it start!!

When working out by myself in my home gym or at the company gym (which is normal for me), I usually train in silence. Occasionally I'll put some music on, and if so it's something I like to listen to: Stevie Ray Vaughn; Allman Bros; Molly Hatchet; Waylon Jennings... Just a few examples. Maybe Aerosmith; Rush; Led Zeppelin..... Old Country like Don Miller (King of the Road, for example); Dave Dudley; Johnny Cash... You get the idea - well, you probably get the idea if you're old enough... LOL!

The first gym I ever belonged to was an old, dingy, hardcore bodybuilding gym called Mans World Gym in Trenton, NJ. Joe Dodd, the owner, played the local "top 40" station which generally had music playing that in most cases I couldn't stand. But it served as background music and actually sort of helped me focus on my training because I did the best I could to tune it out. All the music did was fill the empty space between the iron plates clanking and the grunting and chatter.

I'm going to verr slightly off topic: I was just visiting friends in Vegas and trained at LVAC where a good buddy of mine belongs. They of course have music playing - I have no idea what because I tune it out the best I can, like I described above. But, SO MANY PEOPLE walk around with headphones or earbuds, listening to whatever they want. I get that, like i said, I don't like what's playing over the gym's system either. However, the headphones have the effect of everybody being totally in their own world and largely completely self absorbed. The place is mobbed; just about every piece of equipment is being used; a situation like that pretty much demands that people interact; ask to "work in" so 2 or 3 guys (or girls or guy/girl) can use the same piece of equipment at the same time. I mean, why the fuck not? You have to rest between sets anyway, why not have another guy do his sets while you rest? Yet this is impossible because of the whole isolated, self absorbed sound bubble thing. People get annoyed if they have to pull their earbud out to interact. WTF? There must be 1,000 people in this gym! No shit, it's fucking enormous and CROWDED! And people expect to go to a place like that and not interact and share equipment??? I don't get it.....

I know most people here are going to disagree with me, but put the fucking headphones and earbuds away!

Ok, rant over.....

Totally understand, but I use headphones/earbuds to keep myself from socializing. Without them I overhear conversation that I join ( I like talking to people) or people come out of the blue and talk to me in the middle of a set. If I didn't have earbuds I could be in the gym for 3 hours and never get a pump going. I still smile at people and answer question or talk to my friend in between sets, but I try to keep my conversations to 1-2 minutes at the most or I have to warm up all over again.

Bottom line is dicks are dicks weither they have headphone on or not!!

I can see where you're coming from with this. My buddy is the "mayor" of the gym where he belongs.... A guy there asked him when his talk show starts... HAHA!! But he's retired... He can afford to burn time in the gym if he wants. I can relate to you in that I sure don't have 3 hours to spend on a workout. Matter of fact, I try to keep it at or under an hour, if possible.

The people that get irritated about someone trying to communicate with them about using some equipment, are just ignorant. I say fuck em & I won't cooperate with them in any way when they want to use equipment I'm on in the future. On the other hand, headphones or not, the people in there that are trying to talk all the damn time when I am trying to workout... is very frustrating! Most of the time I can get by with hand gestures, by just pointing at a piece of equipment
