This is not a new observation for me, but my wife and I were just in Vegas for the weekend and it brought it right to the front of my consciousness, big time.

Maybe it's because so many people make their living in Vegas with their looks: coctail waitresses; showgirls; waiters; waitresses, etc., and it rubs off on the rest of the population. I know in the case of women - I know this for a fact, my wife confirmed it - that many women feel they "have to" look sexy just to fit in at all.

Anyway, the observation is that there are an awful lot more "in shape" people in Vegas than there are anywhere else I've been or where I live. In a gym in Vegas, I'm just another bozo on the bus. When we moved back home to NJ, my wife and I both looked like world class bodybuilders by comparison to the rest of the local gym population.

We used to see in the paper and elsewhere in the news the "obesity epidemic". I don't see much of that anymore, but I don't think that's because it's gotten any better. More likely the "news" is tired of hurting peoe's feelings..... I'm not saying there are no fat people in Vegas - amd I'm talking about residents, not tourists - but there are a lot more fat people per segment of the local population in other places; amd a LOT more "in shape" people per segment of the population in Vegas.

What's your area like, and where are you? I would imagine parts of CA are similar to Vegas; possibly parts of NYC and other major cities, too...

I have spent a great deal of time in CA, CO and NM and you are correct. Peer pressure is on when it comes to the wealthy and "birds of a feather".

In the Rural midwest fat and homly are more the normal, but not always remember Brad Pitt came from Springfield, Missouri.

This veers off topic, but you reminded me of it: when we lived in Vegas, we went to a movie with another couple we're friends with who like to go to movies. It was something to do, rather than a movie we necessarily wanted to see. "World War Z". Brad Pitt was the star, and in a super-hero type role.

Fucking hilarious, it was so ridiculous! Has to be the dumbest movie I ever saw, and with Brad Pitt as a super hero??? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

Hollywood kills me. Look Harrison Ford or even Tom Cruise in the newest mission impossible. 55,60,75+ year old guys doing this stuff in real life????............oh right we were talking about fantasy land called the "movie industry"

Yeah, Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher cracks me up, too. I actually enjoyed the movie that I saw, but if you've read Lee Child's Jack Reacher series novels, you know that Reacher is a 6'- 5" and 250 lb tough guy. Tom Cruise doesn't exactly fit that description. LOL!

I have read all the Jack Reacher books. The guy kicks ass. Tom Cruise was a poor casting choice for the Jack Reacher movies.

didn't know they were books. haven't read any good books recently. the last one i read was dinosaurs or dragons. or was it the other way around, anyways, it was good.

Vegas feels remarkably like an extension of SoCal, which is where I'm located. While there are a fair share of fat people here (especially among the latino population), there are many more fit people here than other places in the country. However, the so-called fittest city in the nation tends to be Denver.

I lived in Denver and it is very fit, but also very pretentious.

Everytime I visit, I laugh when I go to the gym..............stupid people doing stupid shit.................Hey everybody look at me!!!!
