What are some good supplements for HEALTH?

Everybody wants to get big. But personally, that's a secondary priority to being healthy. IMHO there's no point to being a lean 260 if you have to tear your body up to get there. I'd rather be a lean 225 and be in great cardiovascular and physical condition.

Most of the threads are about supplements to increase mass, or lean out, etc. Let's talk about some good supplements to take to keep your body healthy so you can enjoy your chiseled physique for years to come.

A good multi-vitamin is a necessary foundation. Even with the cleanest of diets, it is still unlikely that all of the vitamins and minerals your body needs can be eaten every day.

For liver protection there are a few choices, but I believe the best to be Milk Thistle, derived from Sylmarin, with the most effective being a brand that has silybin phytosome. Silybin phytosome has a bioavailability nearly 8 times that of regular Milk Thistle sylmarin. Examples are Maximum Milk Thistle or Siliphos.

Of course we all know the value of fish oil caps. Omega-3 being an EFA are necessary for many things and must be consumed since your body cannot produce them.

Taurine, although less well known than some other aminos, is the second most abundant amino acid in the body. It is a component of bile, needed for fat digestion and cholesterol control, is an antioxidant that reinforces the immune system, can help prevent diabetes, can strengthen and stabilize the heart and prevent blood clots, and some studies have found it can lower blood pressure. 2-3g daily is a good dosage.

Magnesium is another very important element in the human body. Studies have shown that over half the country doesn't get the government recommended amount of magnesium. Most multi-vitamins don't even have 100% of the daily magnesium intake, in fact the typical amount is only around 25%. Since all enzymes utilizing or synthesizing ATP require magnesium, we can conclude that it is an important nutrient. It has also found that a magnesium deficiency can lead to asthma, osteoporosis, and ADHD.

These are all things that, when taken will contribute to a healthy body in all aspects. Without a healthy body, you're missing the sturdy foundation you need to support the monstrous three story work of art you hope to build every day in the gym ;)

I'm sure I am missing some so all you other knowledgeable bros, what are some supplements that you take and/or recommend to maintain good health?

I take milk thistle, omega 3,6, and 9, one asprin everday. Plus my blood pressure meds. In the off season I drink a glass of Cranberry juice every morning.

Nuk what bp med are you on. When I was on it I was on hctz and norvasc. I think milk thistle is a good idea. Mutivitamins are a must in our fast paced lifestyle. I saw rich franklin put lemon fish oil in his chocolate protein shake and almost vomited but I would say its a good idea as well. One of the most forgotten is fiber. It helps so many things work more efficiently. I shoot for 25 grams a day personally. I would also add as far as health goes lots of green vegetables or if you are like me and can't stomach most of them, a phyto nutrient supp. Blueberries and acai are also great for antioxes. Tomatoes are great too.

i take this or just a smaller dose of cycle support daily usually.
also omega 3's and 6's for sure a good multivitamin and a good diet. I personally think you get most everything else you need you get within your diet. Ive been thinkin about what cyphon said about that cocktail in that article he posted, might try that.

Forget fish oil guys all it is is processed cold water fish, and by processed I mean the left overs that they cant use for anything else. Suck it up and get actual salmon oil caps. As for fiber just steam up some veggies with your meals, dont forget your calcium. Milk actually has less calcium in it then a spear of broccoli belive it or not. Vit C is also another big one.

irish- what makes the salmon oil caps that much better bro? I figured as long as the fish oil caps had DHA and EPA as the ingredients it should be all good.

kinda what i figured as well. For extra fiber i take metamucil easy as hell to drink down and i can tell a huge difference when i take it.

^ I bought some off-brand fiber supplement and was taking it but it only has like 3g of fiber per servings. That's a lot of supplementation if I'm supposed to be getting at least 35g a day!

Well to start most fish oil caps are made of the parts of the fish that are not normally eatable, guts ect and as a by product of that do you really want to eat something made from the "filters" of the body be it a cow or a fish that dosent have FDA controlling what they can and cannot eat.
