[h=2]NeuroBirth.com Piracetam is a cyclic derivative of gamma-aminobutyric acid or GABA with chemical name 2-oxo-1-pyrrolidine-acetamide . It is the most common type and the primary representative of nootropic drugs with novel properties particularly at the neuronal and vascular levels . Its wide range of physiological effects include enhancement of memory and learning, neuroprotective activity, anticonvulsant effect and efficiency against cognitive disorders, dementia and even dyslexia .

[/h]In various experiments and studies conducted, Piracetam exhibited efficiency in improving cognitive processes like memory and learning . In a one-trial test conducted involving rats, the dose 400mg/kg Piracetam significantly improved retention with a 24-hour interval. Oral administration of Piracetam among albino rats yielded the same significant effects on retention . On the other hand, while Piracetam is effective in improving cognitive functions, this novel drug can be combined with other drugs for a synergistic effect. Piracetam and choline when combined facilitates greater memory processes improvement in mice. A similar study has been conducted involving 30 healthy males divided into 3 groups: Group A took ginko biloba, Group B took Piracetam and Group C took both. While the cognitive functions and memory of the first groups were improved, the combination of piracetam and ginko biloba exhibited the most significant effects compared when piracetam or ginko biloba were taken alone . For this reason it may be a good idea to buy piracetam with ginko baloba.
Piracetam can be used for cognitive disorders like dementia which is primarily caused by aging . In a study conducted to test whether Piracetam can improve cognitive functions, 300mg/kg of Piracetam was administered to rats daily for 1 month and 2 weeks. This nootropic improved the rats’ active avoidance learning whilst enhanced membrane fluidity in most brain regions and induced a positive effect on the hipoccampus and frontal cortex . 200mg/kg equal combination of Piracetam and choline induced pronounced reduction of memory disturbances among aged rats . The efficacy of Piracetam against cognitive decline was further evaluated in a study involving patients with Alzheimer’s or other cerebrovascular conditions in doses of 4800 mg for 4 weeks that eventually went down to 2800 mg daily. The benefits on cognitive function was observed after a few weeks, whereas cognitive enhancement was more pronounced in patients with depressive symptoms .
Known for its nootropic activity, Piracetam also exhibits positive effects on dyslexia . In a double-blind, placebo controlled study, Piracetam-treated dyslexic boys exhibited improvements on reading accuracy, comprehension, speed and writing accuracy compared to the placebo control group. In another research conducted, dyslexic children administered with Piracetam showed improved reading ability and comprehension . Enhanced reading speed and auditory short-term memory were observed in a double-blind, placebo controlled research involving 257 boys with developmental dyslexia. In these 3 studies, Piracetam was found to be highly tolerated and thus further encourage it’s potential as a dyslexia medication.
Piracetam was proven safe and effective for myoclonus epilepsy in a study involving twenty patients in a double blind trial with 9.6g, 16.8g and 24g piracetam daily administration for 6 weeks . Primary outcomes include significant improvements in functional disability, handwriting, motor impairment, stimulus sensitivity and global assessments. In an open label study involving 11 patients with progressive myoiclonus epilepsy, treatment of piracetam at an initial dose of 3.2 g/day gradually increased to 20g/day for up to 18 months were administered. Significant improvement were observed in 3 indices defined: functional disability, motor impairment and global assessment.

How does Piracetam works and why should you buy Piracetam?
[/h]Piracetam’s effect on cognitive functions can be primarily attributed to its significant effects on neurotransmission — influencing cholinergic, noradrenergic, serotoninergic and glutamatergic systems which improves membrane fluidity and thereby influencing neurotransmitting action and cell signaling. You may consider to buy piracetam for its effects on learning and memory can be further attributed to its neuroplastic effects or its ability to reduce neuronal loss whilst enhance number of synapses in the hippocampus . Its effect on cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease can be attributed to its Piracetam’s ability to restore and enhance menbrane fluidity.
Dyslexia, a learning disability, can benefit from the cognitive benefits and mechanism of action of Piracetam in performing tasks associated with the brain’s left hemisphere, particularly in improving reading accuracy and comprehension .
Piracetam’s benefit to epilepsy is attributed to its anticonvulsant effects . While its exact mechanism of action against this condition is not fully understood, it is hypothesized to be associated with Piracetam’s significant effects on neurotransmitters and stimulation of neuronal function .

Piracetam is a well studied and documented nootropic proven to exhibit clinical benefits to a wide range of conditions. It’s a promising medication not only for cognitive disorders, age-related cognitive impairment, epilepsy and dyslexia, but can also be effective against sickle cell anemia, vertigo, depression and anxiety. Whilst further studies are required, Piracetam has a great potential not only for its efficacy but also because it is well-tolerated with little to no side effects and can be combined with other drugs to maximize its health effects.

So how popular are Nootropics among bodybuilders and the healthy , fitness minded in general? Anyone?

I'm one of them :) I only use "legal" nootropics though. I know some bodybuilders that are in to nootropics.
