Im trying to train abs a little here and there. But after like 4 sets... they start to cramp. So bad that if i bend down, holly shit... they lock up and its hard as hell to stop them from cramping.

I've tried stretching... but nothing seems to help. So whats the deal? is it cause im doing deads, and squats on other days and its just that my abs are over worked???

shouldnt be may be that you just havent hit them like this in a long time and it will take a little while. Work into them slowly if your anything like me you neglect them most of the time lol.

dude Im the same way, sometimes my abs lock up like a softball and I have to have somebody straighten me out. Hurts like hell! I dont know what it is. Have notice I never cramped with hanging leg raises though. But If im on a ball or decline bench Ill cramp easy.

Same here, My abs have always cramped up with me, I can hardly do 25 sit ups without them knotting up. But not near as bad as my ass cramping up after lunges, no that shit hurts, can't move, just standing there looking stupid like you just shit your pants or something.

i asked a trainer today and she said the same thing g said.... i have to start back at it slower....

but i dont know man... maybe its cause i do heavy deads and squats.... and those days my abs are worked real hard.

i dont know how well this works but i heard a little pickle juice helps with muscle cramps i know pro football players keep that on the side lines when they are playing the game for muscle cramps

wierd... really? These are like nuknuk described, once you get it... your seriously not going to be doing any more ab work... its hard enough to be able to straiten your body....

There's a lot of sodium in the pickle juice, that's why they use it. Electrolytes are probably out of balance if you get that bad of cramps in your abs.

thats gotta be the worst

i got it one day while driving down the highway... 80 mph
skidded over 3 lanes and had to get out of the car and lean over my hood backwards until the cramp went away !!

yep... this happens EVERY time i do abs.... so i doubt it has to do with my electrolytes.

it happened t me after a long lay off after a surgery. My abs cramped up so bad I had to lay on the floor in the corner of the gym for like half an hour contorting myself to avoid pain. It was really horrible. people were just looking at me. Then, What I did was 10 reps of abs Thats all. Then added 1 or to more each day going very slow. Now im doing 200 REPS but its been 8 months. Go slow

im beginning to think your right. I tried doing just crunches today... popped out 50, after i stopped i got a little cramping... tried to do more after about a minute and didnt get more than say 15 before my abs where to tired.

I then did some leg lifts (2 sets of like 15)

and called it a day.

no cramping....

Got a really good laugh on this one

Exactly so. I get them all the time, and certain muscle bellies in my abs get hard as a rock and stick out like I have a tumor!! It hurts like hell. But the reason this is happening to us is because of either, a sodium, or potassium and/or electrolyte imbalance such as Sauds said. I have researched it immensly as I suffer from it all the time. I double up on my multivitamins and add salt to my diet along with potassium usually from orange juice, and it helps with the cramping, but I worry every time I am about to train abs that its gonna happen again.

last 2 days i've been working them. I think im getting stronger...less cramping. I plan on working them all week cause im dropping some weight right now.
