Blood donation and serum test level?

I know donating blood will lower hemoglobin/hematocrit level. Does anyone know if there is any effect on serum test level from donating blood? Will serum test level be detectably lower after blood donation?

I'm guessing not, but I wonder...

I think it comes from depot. I donate often and never had drop in sex drive. I donate sometime just before bloodwork at Dr within a day or two and my levels or same at 100 mg week. I know after I blast with e or c no matter how much I am cleared 4 weeks later. We are only donating one pint of blood. I know they can use trt phebotomy blood on people without a problem men or women.

With depot injections there should be a constant release into blood once Ester broke off then serum. Don't think it would make much a difference maybe divide total amount of pints in body by 1. And that will be flooded with next release. It's possible it may increase free testosterone from removing other proteins that bind to test. My opinion and 2 cents

Thanks for your thoughts. I am inclined to agree with you but never heard or read definitely one way or the other.

Anyone know how many pints of blood is typically in the body? I don't have the foggiest idea... I'm going to donate blood today, I'll try to remember to ask the tech there and see if she knows.

I guess what got me wondering about it is this: If donating a pint of blood will significantly reduce the number of RBC's, which is the point for me, I wonder what effect it has on other things?

Regarding using blood from TRT patients in others, the people at the blood bank where I donate blood specifically told me that blood from TRT patients is NOT used for others. They can spin the blood to separate out the different components and then use some components. I forget which ones. I think the plasma and possibly WBC? I'll ask again today.

The average male adult has 10 pints, some people around 11. Usually not more than 11 though. Women typically have around 10. It is rare that a woman will have more than 10.

So it seems possible that taking a pint of blood could reduce serum blood level by around 10%, at least immediately following the blood donation...

I wonder if that's really what happens?

I just hung up the phone with the blood donation center I go to and asked what theyou do and don't use from TRT patients: they DO NOT use the plasma, as the effect of exogenous testosterone on pregnant women and infants is not known and may be harmful; they DO USE the red blood cells. And depending on blood type, WBC also.

The dip would be very small and very brief since the injection site would still be releasing hormone into the bloodstream. If you suddenly no longer had any more release of the hormone at the time of donation, then a small percentage drop could occur. I have never had them ask me if I was on TRT or not, and they didn't seem to care if I was.

Huh, that's interesting that you haven't been asked, being on TRT was VERY important to them at this place.

Thanks for your wxplanation, makes sense.

I think that the calculations would be difficult to determine. You would need to take in to account the amount of compound you know that exists, as a constant. Then try to factor out how much of said compound is in your blood alone. That would exclude any amounts of the compound that has been absorbed in by other organs in your body. Lots of calculating.....

And I'm not that damn smart.

I wanted to bump this to see if my last comment was too far out there or not.

I don't think your comment was out there at all. I think Big Z's post was very insightful, and his explanation makes a lot of sense to me (which likely means nothing, since I don't really know anything) ; and your thoughts on calculating the level make a lot of sense to me also.

I agree with you completely on your last point: I'm not that smart!

The reason this came up at all is because I have to get blood drawn in advance of a doc appointment coming uo in a couple of weeks. I'm always a littlw worried that he's going to tell me I'm too high. I've been running 140 mg a week for a month now, so tjat really shouldn't be an issue, but was wondering if donating bloodshortly before a blood draw would have any effect on the serum test level that will ne measured. Like I said, it really shouldn't be a concern, it was more of a curiosity thing and wondering if there would be any benefit (with regard to how the doc will view my bloodwork) to donating before the blood draw.

Like I had said, it comes from depot site. I blast 750 wk until 4 weeks before bloodwork and come in good dropping to 100mg for those 4 weeks. I have done my therapeutic phlebotomy the day before. I have always had total testosterone come back between 800 and 1000. I always do 50 mgs on Monday and Thursday. Before labs I skip the nearest 50 mg pin until after labs. I do because there is always a spike within the first 48 hours after pin after Ester is broke off into blood stream with test e or c from studies I have read. Don't ask me to post I just figured out how to change to debutant. Learning this site. Lol

Cat, I think u made perfect sense on other things besides blood. Also the fact that of level at time. Something else to think about would be that other factors including activity and body temperature may affect the rate long Ester test is absorbed.
EMW, I have thought if I came in high is to say I may have mixed up week because he has me on 200 every two weeks. Also my wife gives me pin and would say I did last time and may have put too much. Or she told me it's 200 a week and I thought she meant 2cc's. Thought of same things. Hope my experience helps.
