What is the method of heating to disolve powders?

Hi all,

I wonder if someone could shed a little light on a problem I am having right now. I am cooking both Test Enanthate and also Test Propionate but having a lot of problems with the propionate as its not disolving in the BA/BB. I have already made up a batch of 60ml @ 100mg/ml but it is very cloudy and I can see the crystals floating in the suspension/oil.

What is the best way to heat it in order for it to be disolved properly? I did try to use the same way as for the Enanthate, i.e. place it in container and add heat through placing it on to the heat in a water bath. This worked fine for the enanthate as it has a low melting point of around 33C but propionate's melting point is 118-122 so, no way for it to melt by boiling it. Which way do most people do the heating to get it to melt? Oven? If so, we do have a gas oven so should I put it in there and set the heat to say, 125C and then wait for it to melt? What about the BA/BB? When would I add/mix these in? I am trying to keep the BA/BB low (2%/6%) so would this be a problem too?

Thanks for any and all information on this, I want to get it right but as its my first endeavour doing it, even though I have ready everything that I can find on the subject.

Regards to all, :)

I do not recommend this but i have popped it in the microwave for a few seconds before and it worked great! Literally just 8 seconds, so that the glass got hot but the liquid barely got warm, then you sit the large vial on its side and the crystals fall to side and dissolved , worked great, and didnt negatively impact the gear

however, i think its by far best to let the powder sit in the BA and BB by itself over night if u have the patience for that, it will always dissolve 100% into clear , then just ad ur oil and Voila!

most people just dont have the patience to let their Propionate powder or any powder for that matter sit in vial for as long as it takes to fully dissolve, of course keeping a rubber stopper in the top, and shake it every once ina while,

You'll probably need a bit more BB especially with short esters like propionate. Try upping to 10%, but 15-20% should definitely have everything dissolved. GL

Turn on you washing machine to a long cycle. Then take your beaker and seal it, set it on the washer and leave it. I also wrap my beaker in a heat pad. It is like a redneck vibrating plate for mixing. Also you can add a little more BB or Alc, maybe you don't have quite enough for your powder. It doesn't have to be an exact even measurement. I use more than most and still do not get PIP. Like I said above, eating while swirling will go a long way as to helping your initial mix.Hope that helps.

Thanks very much for the responses guys, very much appreciated.

I did try Presser's advice and left a new batch of propionate in a 2%/10% solution overnight, covered it so as not to let any air get in to the vial and voila! Worked perfectly. Disolved and now added to my filtered oil and ready now to place in to vials. It didnt however work for the older batch which I made and which crashed. i did put it in to the microwave for a few seconds (8-15 secs a time) and did this about 5 times but to no avail, it looked ok when I took it out, filtered it and put it in to a couple of 10ml vials and left the rest in the large storage jar but a couple of hours later, went to look at it and it had crashed again, it was easy to see the undesolved powder in the oil. Maybe I will try to add some more BB to it to save the 60ml batch and see if that helps, or should I just discard this batch and just carry on with the proven technique Presser gave in future?

Thanks again guys and best of luck to everyone making their own solutions :)

I use sunflower oil instead of water as it can hit the high temperature without evaporation same as hot water bath method but with a liquid with a high smoke point

Hi Bigskwats, thanks for the new idea. There are certainly some ingenious ideas on here in order to get things done :) it's an interesting idea, using oil to heat and melt th powders as obviously it gets to a much higher heat than a water bath. I'll give it a go and see how it turns out.

Thanks again and regards,

No worries mate hope it goes well

There are 2 baths we can use for homebrewing: water bath and oil bath. For oil bath, uaually use dimethicone. Its boiling point is as high as 280c. Oil bath with dimethicone can replace a alcohol lamp when cooking some special injections, like winstrol suspension. Their powder melting points is more than 100c.
