I have been messing around with this and wanted to see what some of you guys have learned....this is what I did for my last contest

monday gallon
tuesday gallon
wednesday 1/2 gallon
thursday 1/2 gallon
friday pint and a pint with the diuretic...

I peaked the day before the show...I know that it has to do with more than just the water...but by the day of the show I was spilling over...and I did not carb load untill saturday morning...and a bit friday night...but just white rice....half cup.....

I saw this in another post, I believe, so I am glad you asked for opinions. ;)

In my humble opinion, that water plan is poor and probably left you flat as hell come Saturday.

First, you must have had a hard time while carbing up and probably weren't filling out much at all from the lack of water. Carbs and water combine in a 3:1 ratio to form glycogen. Without enough water, you will have trouble filling out.

Add to that the restriction of water early in the week at only 1 gallon and you have your body trying to hold onto the little amount of water it has when it comes time that you are trying to restrict it. The body goes into survival mode and because you restricted your water for so long ( 5 days or so ), your body probably didn't want to give up what little water it had.

Now, if you run a higher amount of water, like up to 3 gallons starting early in the week, you will have plenty of water to combine with carbs to fill out, you will have your body flushing water through quite efficiently, and when you go to drop the water sometime on friday, it will run through you very quickly leaving you dry as hell. From there, your body won't adjust until well after saturday so you shouldn't be holding any water at all.

Alot of guys are leary of waiting to drop their water until friday. However, it has worked extremely well for myself, my clients and alot of guys that I debate this issue with. Most guys don't understand how fast they can drop water when they go from 3 gallons to a very low intake of water.

Last but certainly not least remember: It is not water RESTRICTION you are after - it is water MANIPULATION. Big difference between the two.

But hey, what the hell do I know?? ;)

Skip hit the head of the nail....you need more water early on in the week to get the water pushing mechanism moving

I see what you are saying....But the thing is I dont carbs load on wednesday...I have before but not for the last show....and I came in much harder......

also if I am only drinking around 1 1/2 gallons a day would it be good to go up to 3 gallons on the monday before the show......or were you assuming that I was allready drinking that much?.

Also I was quit flat on saturday.....I also feel I peaked on thursday.....and some friday....but by late friday and early sat I was screwed and holding water....the thing is I started working with a new guy....he is a national level competitor....but his idea did not work for me....

THANKS FOR THE HELP....

run the water 3 galls on monday...you pry peak on thurs b/c your body's mechanism for pushing water is working perfect then and it realizes you are depleting water so therefore you start holding hence the point of you looking flat and smooth on fri and sat

water

As per Skip..without adequate hydration you will never fill up when trying to carb up..and you will most likely tend to hold water which is the survival instinct he spoke of. As well never restrict water or taper off water this is counterproductive...waterload until sometime on the friday, and then cut it out........don't taper water the last few days.
High water intake inhibits ADH release (high blood volume --> low anti-diuretic hormone release --> less water reabsorption in the kidneys)
....Since ADH is supressed from the high water intake, once you cut out water you will lose more because less is reabsorbed as it is cycled through the kidneys.........it usually takes at least a couple of days until ADH secretion is back to normal (via the feedback loop), so you don't want to cut it out too early.

Tapering water causes ADH secretion to increase in response to the slow reduction in water intake. Its counterproductive to taper water!

Peace,
P

So is 3 gal monday,2 gallon Tuesday through Thursday,1/2 gal Friday and nothing after 6pm sound about right??-PS-also carbing up starting tonight (300gm)-600 thursday,600 friday and whatever is in my waffles Saturday-opinions welcome

I DARE YOU TO TRY THIS!!!

If you would like to be dry - I'm talking dry as a friggin' bone that has been knawed on by buzzards in the Mohabe desert for the last decade.

BTW, do a practice run before your show. Always do a practice run.

Mon: 1 gal
Tues: 1.5 gal
Wed: 2gal carb up (as y ou had planned)
Thurs: 2.5gal carb up (as you had planned)
Fri: 3gal distilled, stopping water by 6PM (or as SOON as possible)

On Friday, eat nothing but low sodium protein - I use chicken breast, turkey is slightly loower in Na, but not much - about 300g total. Take ECA (3x); 10+ g of vitamin C; dandelion, uva ursi, etc, like candy (1-2 pills / hour); 3-5 mulitiviatmins and 3-5 B complex pills.

Wake up Sat. dry as a mofo. Sick dry, like you're a friggin' cartoon character. Drink some carbs - like an ultrafuel or Carbo force - and watch the veins expand like balloons.

Come up with a comic book hero name for yourself - something like Veino, Rippedman, or the Shredder. ;^)

I had someone suggest to me before to start water loading on the wednesday before a show...I thought is made no sense but after my last show and the experience I had with water depletion I think I will play with what you said....It may need to altered a bit to fit me...but looks like it may be a good idea.....

dont minde me asking but what is your reasoning behind this..
