Hey Skip!

Does fat loading (not shit loading) work?

I can't say for sure as I have no experience using the method.
The theories behind it make sense but making sense on paper and working in a practical sense, are two entirely different things.

I just have never heard of this method. The person preparing me is an IFFB Canadian pro and so far her diet really has gotten me lean but the last few days before the shaow can make or break your placings. I will just have to do as she tells me and the results will speak for themselves. Thanks for the response.

Fat loading theory

OK Skip - now you have me wondering. What is the theory behind fat loading?

I understood the shitloading theory (which has some fats included) and just plain old carb loading - but how does the body use the high level of last minute fats without high carbs the same way? Is there time to convert the fat intake into glycogen that the muscles can use to bond with the subqutaneous and the last minute water?

I have to admit I'm too lazy to search the topic on my own - and since you already seem to know please share. Thanks!

Well, I really DON'T know so I will give my best hypothesis:

I think that fatloading would work for someone that is coming into their last week and is pretty full while being very lean and drying out nicely from the first few days of diuretics and water increase AND has a hard time with water manipulation the last few days. Some guys are just overly sensitive to carbs and this makes water control very difficult.
I came into my last week seriously considering not loading at all with carbs (not depleting either) and just coasting into the show. At that point, a fat load would still fill you out a bit as lipids are sucked into the cell too - there just isn't as much of a demand for them as there are for carbs. The fatload would also make you very vascular as I believe the vascularity from the shitload is almost entirely from the fat and sodium. During a fatload, I would guess that you would want to keep your sodium high also. This would help to continue to dry you out (if the sodium intake is within the last 24 hours or so and after a sodium depletion). So, you would basically take in fatty, salty foods and the result would be a slight increase, relative to carb loading, in filling out the muscle, drying up a bit from the added sodium and vascularity big time. Plus, you would have an easier time with water control because there wouldn't be as much of a demand for water as you wouldn't have to balance the water needed for glycogen vs. water needing to be lost subq or the potential for the dreaded 'spillover' affect. lol

Just my opinion, though, as I decided to stay with the carb load. It would have been interesting to see how it would have panned out, though.

Interesting concept

It will be interesting to see how this works for gatorr if this is his plan. Hopefully he will give us the details and tell us how it works for him.

So would you or would you not do the normal carb-up/shitload water manipulation with this as it would not work the same way without the carb swing? Would your carb intake just basically stay level?

Does the carb depletion the last week become unnecessary?

Sounds like the keys for this to work would be coming into the final week very lean and still playing with sodium levels.

That is the plan. The fat loading starts friday pm. Then at 4am i get up and eat peanut butter every hour on the hour until prejudging at 9am. Not the natural peanut butter but the stuff loaded with sugar and sodium so what skip said that might be the reason is the fat and sodium to fill me out. Also no water after friday 2 pm or depending how dry i look. Never tried it, but i will in 5.5 weeks.

Water back in

Gatorr - You may need to add some water back in an hour or so prefore you hit the stage for prejudging. Ask your coach about that aspect. Not sure how flat you will be without carb depletion, so with this plan you might not have to.

For those who carb deplete - then drop water it is like a double whammy that makes you feel and look flat especailly if you shitload which means keeping carbs low until friday night. At least with me, I needed to add some water back in to fill out. I did not spill over when I did this and I needed the water to feel/look fuller.

I forget - did you post any pics yet? How is your posing going. Oh and one more thing - how does she choke down all that peanut butter dry??? Yikes!

I have no pics but if you go to anabolex.com and download the 2 min training video trailer iam the one in the brown tank top doing seated dumbell curls. Iam at 234 lbs there 11 weeks out. Its funny as i dont eat much peanut butter when iam not dieting but a couple of weeks of dieting i crave it badly. So loading on it will be heaven for the first few hours. Your right it might be hell trying to gag it down without liquids. Just have to do it slowly. Iam not sure at this point how depleted i will have to become before loading but next time i meet with her i will get more info about it.

This is a interesting subject with a variety of view points on the matter. I have a few points to add to this, but am not sure if I am right anyway I think foods high in fat, sugar, and sodium may help achieve a fuller vascular look is firstly free fatty acid levels in the presense of elevated glucose levles attenuate insulin secretion from pancreatic b cells, thus help pushing and storing glucose and binding it with extracellular water (as water intake has stopped) into muscles filling them out and helping you dry up. Secondly the intake of sodium few hours before a contest with the intake of a little fluid would help restore or blood volume thus making it easier to get vascular.

well this type of diet high fat shuts down ones own test productions after a while!~ hwile fat does increase ones hardness on stage if TIMED right its the combo of replenishing glycogen stores with carbs and some fa...me i love P/B
