I am looking to know if there are any books out there that have info on how to diet for a show >? I can diet from 20 or 16 weeks out down to about 8 weeks out after that I have no idea what else to do I need as much help as I can get

now I have a friend that I just met at my gym that just and I mean just took 1st place in the heavy wt div at the 2004 NPC mountianer in NC
I am sure he is going to help me next year but I am a hands on kinda guy if I can read and learn it I can do it any help will be great!

I am currently 202lbs and about 12% body fat I want to be up to 225 befor I start to cut for my first show

any help will be great ! thanks

shiko,

I've competed 6 times and used several different approaches. I don't know of any book's out there, but got my info mainly from articles, the boards, and fellow Competitors. My advice is to get with a Trainer that specializes in Bodybuilding. Preferably someone that has competed themselves (jump in at any time MMX2). Get with this person early before you start dieting so they can monitor your progress and steer you in the right direction. The mirror becomes misleading and it's good to have an objective point of view.

Best of luck Bro,

Chuck

thanks bro I have since this post found a bro at my gym that just took the 1st place in heavy's at the NC NPC mountaineer he has taken me under his wing and will be helping me for next season

also there are books out there I found about 6 really good ones online the most popular was the BodyOpus (sp) I will post a link later

Diets are kind of tricky as I've seen allot of different people react to them totally different, I've seen people cut from 4 meals a day down to one and add 15 pounds. And others bump up their calories and meals and loose weight so diets have to be somewhat individualized that's prolly why their aren't many books, however their are a few general rules that always hold true.

Sorry I missed this thread... I agree with Chucka Z . There are really no books on comp dieting but I would definitely get with someone who has competed or specializes in designing diets for competitors. Even with the best info, the trainer can only do so much .. you have to go the last few steps. 15 weeks is ample time for contest prep dieting. The goal as usual is to retain as much muscle as possible - you do not need to use a boatload of drugs- you just enough to maintain.
Contest prep is a hit and miss - the best thing to do is to learn from each show and grow. I made a mistake this year by dropping down a class for my shows- although I got down to 181( off season this year I was 249) and looked really tight, I lost a lot of quality muscle and my weak parts
overshadowed my strong parts like quads and back.
I got the dieting part down- but my goal next season is to go back up to the heavies so I am bulking up something big this season. Will also be giving IGF a try as well. Good luck with your future shows and where we can help, don't hesitate to ask.

There are books on diets, but again, not really dedicated to comp dieting but it can help.
For the first show you really need an in-person guide to help.
If you decide to go on your own, try a trial run way before the actual prep. This way you know what to expect. Do the same for diuretic use.

Best thing to do is go see a nutritionist, trust me the money is worth it... considering all the money spent on sup and foods already...go in have someone work with you, check your bf% every 3-4 weeks... I use Keith Klein and the info I have learned is worth Gold and I will always have my secrets and info that a lot of guys who step out on stage don’t have. Spend the extra cash, gain Golden knowledge and progress to a next level every time instead of wasting time…. Plus with proper nutrition with your body you will see explosive gains off gear and when you go to cycle you will really see progress and of course also depending on your genetic make up.

thanks blade I will have to look into this !

and to all the others who have replied thanks !
