Question about bumper plates, noise & deadlifting

OK so I see 308 lb used bumper plates, the colored ones, are for sale on a auction from a college about 150 miles away. They are used, which I would paint them. I realize 308 lbs for a good deadlift isnt much, but I would like to reduce the noise from when my members dead, currently only have iron 45lb plates. My question is would these bumper plates, when likely used with other iron 45lbs, combine to at least reduce some noise? Or would the iron ones still over ride the bumper ones and still produce noise? Heres the linky, I would bid on them if I knew they work OK....

One whole set is 308 lbs or both sets are? Not too bad an acquisition. The iron plates will still make noise even if they are combined with the bumper plates though I'd expect the noise to be reduced as long as the iron plates aren't next to each other on the bar.

Right now there are 2 sets, looks like each one is at a bit over $100 for 308 lbs each set. The noise doesnt bother me but some others it does, if I could pick at least one set for .50 cents per lb, then of course my gas to get there, still not a bad deal I guess for bumper plates

They also have 8 texas power bars, they 20 yrs old, have to buy all 8, but at 20 yrs old not sure what shape they be in after being in a college football setting, right now $80 buys all 8 bars but that sure to go up closer to auction end

.50 per pound. what are ya waiting for? buy, at that price, buy what you can and will want for later. that is one heck of a price, even for just iron, no bumper.

Hell yeah, that would be ga good buy at that price.
Like Bigz said it will cut down a lot of noise but not all.

I agree, I emd up paying .50 to .74 for Chinese iron; up to 1.00 for USA iron plates.

I also paid $180 for a single Texas power bar out of a college gym. The knurling is worn out where it got racked; and it was a little rusty. But it was straight and the bushings are in good shape. The rust cleaned right off with white vinegar-soaked paper towels wrapped around it, then wrapped with Saran wrap and let it cook for 24 hours. Unwrapped and a little wire brush and it's good as new. Just don't let the vinegar soaked paper towels dry out (the saran wrap stops that) or it will leave the paper's textured pattern on the iron. At that price, buy all of 'em; scrap whatever is bad and keep the good ones. Even if you only get one or two good ones it's a score.

I have to factor in $35 of gas plus at least 6-7 hours drive time of my life and some labor and paint in restoring them to cosmetic condition for public use, so .50/lb-.55/lb face value is all I'll pay by the time I add in other costs
