Do you guys use them, i prefer the "professional" ones from APT, but i know alot of guys like those things that wrap around your wrist and then have a lenth of leather that straps around the bar, it's like wrist wraps and straps in one.

Do you not use them and if so why not?

I use wrist wraps, i have also tryed what your talking of the ones that wrap around the bar also. I did not feel comfortable useing them. I think more for a power lifter.

I always use straps, helps get extra reps in when otherwise my grip would give out. I've been tempted in the nice hook styles but I still can't make myself spend the money on them.

I use Straps, the thinner the better..I only take one wrap around and let the rest of the strap hang down, so my grip is as tight as possible. I always use chalk also.

I hear everyone say, "straps" is cheating..you will never get strong with them. Not one person who has ever said that to me has been stronger then me, so I say they are speaking out of their asses. Your hands will never be as strong as the other muscles you are using, and there is no reason to sell your training short. If you don't use straps, you take away potential gains IMO.

I used to use them on heavy shrugs, but anymore I do lighter weight on shrugs and just squreze more so I never need them. I use chalk on deadlifts and contradictory to what Wesley said, my hand strength can literally hold more than I can pull. I can rack pull a lot and as I struggle on my PR I don't ever worry about the weight slipping. I think this is due to working as a furniture mover for so many years in my youth. Thaf is also why my forearms are as big as they are.

Going to be getting a pair of the versa grip pro straps. They are going for around $50 online. Right now i use straps. No way could I be doing any pull type movements without them.

used to use straps, really upped the weight I could use. Mostly for lat pulls. I just went to a awning shop and
got a 3' peice of canvas strap and had then cut it in half. Cost about 1.75. lol I'd wrap it around my wrist then
wrap around the bar. Easy once you got used to it. (now thats old school) Havent use straps in years.
I think 30 years of using sheetmetal snips gave me a hell of a grip. I think they would help on shrugs though.
Might have to spend another buck 75 lol.

Gotta get creative sometimes.

I use wrist wraps on bench but try to stay away from straps. I don't like training with anything that I can't use in competition. I will use them if I'm training for a specific event like when I did the 1,200# two man deadlift for rep a few weeks ago. For that event it was a custom thick bar and higher off the ground (truck tires instead of plates) so straps were used in comp.

But I think they are very beneficial for BB. I know Evan Centopani said he made most of the gains in his back from switching to straps. He was able to handle such heavier weight without his grip failing. And he went from his back being his weak point to having one of the best backs in BB.
