Just curious what all of you thought about this. I personaly think you do not have to have competed yet in order to call yourself a bodybuilder but what do u think

I think so.Alot of people train for years to eventually get in the shape to compete. If that's what their goal is why shouldn't they call themself a bodybuilder.

Sure. They just aren't competitive bodybuilders yet, but they are building their body.

I agree, lol, i just heard this debate in the gym not long ago and thought ofcourse you do not have to compete to be considered a bodybuilder but then thought i wonder how many think you do

well I guess you can look at it both ways because I have seen people on stage that I wouldnt call bodybuilders. lol IMO I think you do. People would ask me all the time if I was a bodybuilder and to this day I say no, I just lift wieghts.

Hmmm...that is a good point. Well in that case, maybe I'm just a weightlifter then.

Everybody that walks in the gym, even an 80 years old woman that wants to change and be healthy, is a bodybuilder for me, they are just in their own level, and i design nutritional plans and training like their are bodybuilders because is the only way to reach the goals.

Everybody is looking for the same goal: lose fat, build muscle and strenght, loose weight and be healthy.

so the guy who never works legs and does chest and biceps 4 times a week is a bodybuilder.mmmm Im not buying it. There are 3 types of people in gym. Weight lifters, power lifters, and bodybuilders. And I dont think Jay Cutler would be to happy you campared him to a 80 year old woman, haha, lol

I think you dont have to compete to be a bodybuilding. If you compete, you are a "competing bodybuilder".
I consider myself a bodybuilder. I am constantly trying to add muscle and size - or build up my body. That qualifies me for a bodybuilder. When I am no longer trying to get bigger/stronger (which will be never), then I am no longer a bodybuilder.

All good points, GEGERAL CONSENSUS SAYS THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO COMPETE IN ORDER TO CALL YOURSELF A ABODYBUILDER, I KINDA OF THOUGHT THAT WHERE WE WOULD WIND UP, BUT WERE OPEN TO ANY OTHER ARGUMENTS EITHER WAY

No you don't have to compete to call yourself a Bodybuilder. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
The love of the art and the motivation to sculpt your body as close to perfection as chemically, I meant to say godly possible should be enough.
I have friends that call themselves weight lifters. They are not as much into the beauty of bodybuilding as they are into lifting a whole bunch of weight.
Some would say bodybuilding includes lifting a whole bunch of weight. I believe it’s more in how you lift the weight. I believe it is a combination of mind to muscle and perfectly executed form.
Personally having this mentality has kept my ego in check, free from injury and consistent gains.
But that’s just my opinion.
God Bless

Correct, I always say I used to bodybuild recreationally, and that many things open to interprretation, not to mention I would tell them I used to train, etc.... but no I've never been on stage and at this point want to 'body build' to enhance myself to where *I* feel satisfied.
