So how many of you actualy count reps???? I havent done this in years. If you are focusisg on a number, how can you focus on the the set you are doing?????

It's just instinct to me. I talk to a guy at the gym who says he never knows how many he's done, because he just can't concentrate on counting. But, I count everything, so it's nothing to me.

I count reps. That way I make myself push to reach that goal. If I reach the rep I was aiming for, then I up the weight and try it again.

I count to know where I am for next time. I count backwards though. Makes it seem like you are getting there easier for some reason. Only problem is when you go past 1 and have to keep track of how many extra you do. I read it in an old Arnold book when I first started working out years ago and have just always done it that way.

That's a different way. I might have to try that.

I always count my reps. If I can get a few more then I do them but next time I know to up the weight for that exercise.

Someone on here used to have a signature that read "don't count the reps, make the reps count!". But seriously I count reps, for the reasons Nuk listed.

I never count reps, and havent done so in years. I always go til failure. It just works best for me this way and always has. Plus I guess you could also look at it like this, if your having a bad day or off day and your goal is say 10 reps and you wind up not getting it, it kind of fucks with your head and the rest of your workout, and if your having a great day and say your goal is 10 reps then you stop however you could have repped out many more reps you kind of robbing yourself.

I dont know, i dont see anything wrong with it either way i guess, I just know I never count reps and always go til failure this way I know I have totaly exhausted my muscle no matter if I am having a good day or a bad day!

I always go to failure or close to...

I keep a log book and count the reps so that way I know if I'm getting stronger, sometimes I don't hit my rep number but I know that there are certain factors that inhibit it sometimes, stress, long day at work, not eating enough, etc

so if I don't make the proper reps I don't beat myself up too bad
