I do deads 1x wk,sometimes, like this morning ,I don,t feel strong--my usall workout with deads is a warmup and then 2 sets with max weight(300) 6 to 7 reps each set--but it totally destroys my cns--which is good but sometimes i,m just not ready for it.So heres my question;how about just doing 3 sets,10 reps ea,of like 60% weight, really strict and recieving a good pump-is this a good switch or AM I TAKING A STEP BACKWARDS??

Best bet is to deadlift every other week. Substitute anothe back exercise in there. Gives you more variety plus a break on the CNS. I do the same with squats, every other leg day or usually no more than squatting 2 leg days consequitively then something else like hacks or leg press instead.

you could also lower the weight to say 225 and rep out, rest for 20 seconds and rep out again (keep the rest period short)

go nice and slow to get that deep tissue burn that we all love so much

that's not a bad idea...when i do deadlifts i usually only do 2 sets of 315 because i'm not real stong at them. i like the exercise and want to get better at them so i'll give this a shot on friday's back workout.

it isn't my best exercise either, but i'm working on it every other week!

But the problem with that is if still done every week it will still heavily tax the cns. The only way to allow cns recovery is time.

you mentioned this before about deads and squats, so I only do these two exercises every other week

Minor point - deads one week, then squats the next. Doing both in the same will be OK for the first of the two, but the second will suffer.

Partials are probably a better option if you're using the deads for back work. It remedies the possibility of "inadvertantly" training legs (e.g. if you just hit them or will in you next workout).

Set up the safety bars just above or below the knee in the power rack. Be sure to pull back at the top (not so much as to risk hyperextending your back), pulling the sholder blades together.

Deads should be done IMO once or twice a month with the heaviest weight possible. In my case, I hadn't done them in over three months (injuries), I started out yesterday at one plate (135) and moved up to four plates (405) at the end (last two sets) with strict form and never going over two or three reps with that weight. Heavy is the only way to go for core lifts. It's a lift to build foundation.......not shape!

can anyone give a site that shows the proper way to do a deadlift, I do them every 3rd week, but I have reason to believe that my form is a tad bit off. It works my back, I canf feel it, but I have this feeling I'm doing it a bit wrong.
