How long do you wait after eating to work out?

Some days I'll eat some oatmeal right before I work out and some days its hours before I workout. I just think its good to have something in the stomach while you are working out.
 
I'm usually hitting the gym right after work, so say 1630-1700 time frame depending on my case load that day, so it lunch at 12-1300, so it's at least 3-4 hrs, and I find I feel better if I eat a light lunch as opposed to heavy, then I'll hit the water and gator-aide on the way to the gym. a solid 45 minutes give me time to digest it and feel the carbs kick in, otherwise if i dont wait long enough i have a hard time beathing in the gym i guess cause the foods sitting on my stomach
 
I always eat at least something small before a workout, but that's also because I work out at 5:00 am. If I didn't, I'd probably pass out.
