Ok I was talking to someone from this company (not the original author of the paragraph I posted) and she had some valid points to which I countered w/valid points also....here's the summary of our convo:
Her: "Both PF and us provide a way for non-athletes to get in shape and get healthy"
Me "That's cool and all but why would you avoid a facility where hard work actually gets you quicker and better results? I understand that you have to start somewhere and I certainly applaud anyone who is making the effort regardless of the weights used. What your endorsing is a place where the bar is so low you almost trip on it. How can you expect to raise the fitness levels when you keep the beginners in with the beginners at all times?"
Her: "Why don't you allow each individual to clarify what they want to be? A lot of them don't want to be buff just healthier and look better than what they do. They are intimated by men who use heavy weights and scary machines. You have to make things fun and easy for them"
Me: "Your missing my point, any major improvement in fitness and the word "easy" don't belong in the same sentence. They are typical oxymorons and its like trying to make ice cubes by using the oven. They just don't work"
Her: "They work fine for what the consumer wants. They are healthier and live longer without going thru a heavy duty regiment.
Me "Another missed point, you don't have to be a BB or competitive athlete to use their protocols. The principle are all the same. If its power moves, super setting or negative emphasis, these are all staples that should be in ANYONES workout routine regardless. The basics for driving are the same for driving a car as they are for formula one racing"
Her "Like PF says for every lunk head they piss off there's 200 members that join."
Me: "Yea and in a year, 199 of that 200 have either quit or are still where they started. The other one figured it out and went to a real gym."
Her: "We all know hard core gyms are a thing of the past"
Me: "This sounds like PF propaganda, totally not true and their reasoning is that they don't want anyone to find out the truth that this is hard work. I wish you soft cores would face the hard facts, this is hard work and not romper room and quit misleading the public for the sake of corporate profits."
So she just kind of hee hawed and changed the topic real quick. Losers....
