I have always wanted to have my own gym like probably half of you here. I always wanted to have it be a place where hard core guys were welcome but if you needed someone to help watch the kids that would be possible too. I also had plans on having a dojo in it. I was really big into martial arts and hoped to do that as well. I am currently in school for counseling but I would love to do this.

unfortunately the hardcore philosophy doesn't make much money for it's owners anymore.......i wish you luck in your dreams

That is exactly what I use to want to do. Been a martial artist for 17 years now, it's always been my first love. Got to work with people like Ken Shamrock, Keith Hackney, some old UFC guys, Jim Harrison, and even a couple of Bruce Lee's students Ted Wong and Joe Lewis who was a kickboxing champ back in the day, Benny Urquidez, the list goes on. I always wanted to put together a hard core gym, maybe similar to some of the old boxing gyms I use to train at in the ghetto. Just that dungeon type feeling, but still nice, w/ free weights area, machines, cardio, and maybe a couple of rings, a cage, mats to roll on, bags, mirrors, etc. If only I were rich, that would be my dream job. Working in banking makes it even worse, as I've learned most banks have a very poor attitude towards business loans for starting a gym, especially in a bad economy because a gym membership is one of the first things to go for a lot of people when times get tough. I'm currently in school to be an Elementary teacher. So now I just have "Kindergarten Cop" jokes to look forward to. At least I'll have summers off, beats working in this shitty ass bank. Dealing with people and their money blows.

We all would love to have a hardcore dungeon gym...But those gyms are pretty much dead now...Its all these sissy gyms like Planet Fitness, ect,ect...

Unfortunatly in the past 10yrs I have been in the health club business I have noticed that if it doesn't appeal to women it doesn't sell & maintain...example being how all the upscale healthclubs these days are putting in salons

extreme fitness is hard core heaven

& My personal favorite place to workout, You gotta see the BS I see in the gym up here in Manhattan D, would blow Your friggin mind....gyms full of the people that would be thrown out of Your hardcore heaven

I wish I had a hardcore gym around here...I guess a gym is what you make of it

the problem with a hardcore gym is that it's members are consistent......clubs make way more money getting new members than they do keeping members which is different than any other sales business.....if a gym is blasting heavy metal and big dudes are throwing weight, screaming, slamming plates and cheering each other on to finish a set, how many old, overweight, pta, housewives who need the gym won't sign up because they're intimidated......there's much more money lost.....hence these f'n trainers that use bands, exercise balls, etc and their clients don't change....it's consistent money.....and that's the bottom line unfortunately

yup the ideal gym is one that can draft a person's bank account every month and with any luck the person will quit coming to the gym but maintain their membership

personally I never wanted to own a gym , too much of a headache

I always just wanted a friend with a gym a good friend. So i could reap the beneifits of being the exclusive trainer and nutrition guy there lol.

Well considering I live in BFE I won't see this come to fruitition anytime soon but you never know. I use to workout at a place that had a hardcore bottom floor and a seperate floor for the ladies. They weren't banned on the bottom but the ladies area was off limit for men. I am considering taking up Ishirn ryu in the next few months. Since I moved I had to abandon tae kwon do. I wish there was someone local I could train jiu jitsu with. There's a gracie gym an hour and fifteen minutes away but I heard its 300 a month. I still like the idea of a dojo/gym though.

I also saw the comment about bank drafts. The last two gyms I joined had contracts and how long you signed for decided the monthly bill. Two year contract saved 20 a month. Its like 50 for a single everywhere even 24 hour fitnesses in this neck of the woods.
