New Divisions at NPC Shows

Men’s Physique will begin in 2011 with an IFBB Professional League division in 2012.

Men wear Shorts, are barefoot & will have some posting criteria & will come on stage individually & then brought out in groups.

Women’s Physique will also begin in 2011

So what do you guys think ?

Mikeheavypecs (from professionalmuscle) had to say this about the new divisions (he is a NPC/IFBB judge, and has judge since 1978)

I judged the State show here today; the womens figure and fitness were over 60% of the contestants. I only will judge the "real" bodybuilding divisions for men and women. I thought to myself that it was really sad what bodybuilding contests have turned into vs the years of real, pure men and women bodybuilding shows. It looked like a circus today. Over a hundred women (which isn't really a bad thing LOL laying all over the floors outside the stage entrance with mirrors and putting on their lipstick and makeup and all. Made me realize that the show was nothing like the old days of mens and women's bodybuilding . After the men and womens bodybuilding prejudging was over today , I had to sit through some of the most horrible dance routines and costumes. I thought and laughed to myself that it was really a circus and became sad what NPC shows have become. Very sad , really, and now they are adding this physique division? the bodybuilding part of the show will really only become a side show to the audience which are there to watch the hokey dance and fitness routines. Some of the routines were similar to the ones I have seen in *t**y bars LOL. I voted against the figure and fitness when it was first brought up at NPC meetings in fear that this is what bodybuilding would beome. Of course the rationale was that it would fill the promoters contests and in turn there would be more contest promoters and also fill the NPCs always thirsty pocketbooks also. Enough of my rant LOL...I just want to say after being a part of the NPC since 1978 I am very dismayed at hearing about these physique divisions. I had heard about this through other NPC officials but thought alot of it was rumor.....

oooo... So true... sounds like what the "new" bodybuilding will become and a way to "mainstream" it... Chris250's right in the regard that bodybuilding will and has become the "side show'... all i can say is.. wow

True probably--- even though naturals have their own federation, do you think they would actually go this route? You are no longer a bodybuilder, per se, but a fitness model. For me, I would have a real problem with that...

Wouldn't you like to have a chance to be Mr. Olympia. I think that title would be alot more appealing.

Hell yes- but again you would be physique model and not bodybuilder. I guess I am too old school because I worked hard to be a bodybuilder not a physique model ...
Maybe they will have a Master division for us old guys... LOL!!!

i think i'll be finding a different federation to participate in.......as much gay association there is with bodybuilding itself, this is the gayest thing that could ever happen to our sport.......i hope it fails like it did several years ago when some promoters tried it.....

This is not going to be fun for the serious competitors that have been dieting for months, but like nuk said, this will give a lot of people a chance to become an IFBB pro now. I don't like it, but I don't think the NPC cares what anyone thinks as long as they're making money

the bodybuilders will suffer the worse, as will most figure, due to the length of the shows. I say do bikini and physique(male and female) all on friday or saturday morning. or both as Friday could be their prejudge and Saturday morning could be their finals. Time will tell.
